الدين، مصطلح يطلق على مجموعة من الأفكار والعقائد التي توضح بحسب معتنقيها الغاية من الحياة الكون، كما يعرّف عادة بأنه الاعتقاد المرتبط بما وراء الطبيعة الإلهيات، كما يرتبط بالأخلاق، الممارسات والمؤسسات المرتبطة بذلك الاعتقاد. وبالمفهوم الواسع، عرّفه البعض على أنه المجموع العام للإجابات التي تفسر علاقة البشر بالكون. وفي مسيرة تطور الأديان، أخذت عددا كبيرة من الأشكال في الثقافات المختلفة وبين الأفراد المختلفين. أما في عالم اليوم، فإن عددا من ديانات العالم الرئيسية هي المنتشرة والغالبة. كلمة دين تستعمل أحيانا بشكل متبادل مع كلمة إيمان أو نظام اعتقاد، ولكن الدين يختلف عن العتقاد الشخصي من ناحية أنه يتميز بالعمومية. معظم الأديان تنظم السلوكيات، بما في ذلك التسلسل الهرمي الديني، تعريف ما يشكل الالتزام أو العضوية في هذا الدين، عقد اجتماعات منتظمة أو خدمات لأغراض تبجيل الإله أو للصلاة، الأماكن المقدسة (الطبيعية أو المعمارية)، الكتب المقدسة. ممارسة الدين ممكن أن تشمل أيضا خطب، أنشطة الاحتفال بإله أو آلهة، التضحيات والمهرجانات والأعياد، الخدمات الجنائزية والخدمات الزواج، والتأمل والموسيقى والفن، والرقص، والخدمة العامة، أو الجوانب الأخرى من الثقافة الإنسانية.

أصل الكلمة

الدِين أو الدِيانة —((من دان خضع وذل ودان بكذا فهي))ديانة وهو دَيِّن، وتديَّن به فهو متدين— إذا أطلق يراد به: ما يَتَدَيّنُ به البشر، ويدين به من اعتقاد وسلوك؛ بمعنى آخر، هو طاعة المرء والتزامه لما يعتنقه من فكر ومبادئ. الدين في مصطلح اللغة العربية: هي العادةُ والشأن. والتدين: الخضوع والاستعباد، ينبني على الدين المكافأةُ والجزاء، أي يجازى الإنسان بفعله وبحسب ما عمل عن طريق الحساب. ومنه صفة الدَيَّانُ التي يطلقها الناس على خالقهم؛ وجمع كلمة دين: أديان. فيقال: دانَ بدِيانَةً وتَدَيَّنَ بها، فهو مُتَدَيِّنٌ، والتدين: إذا وكَل الإنسان أموره إلى دينِه.

الدين جنسٌ من الانقياد والذُّل. يتمثل بالطاعة والانقياد، فرجال الدين: هم المُطِيعون المنقادون، كما يحمل الدين الإنسان ما يَكره، ومن هذا الباب تأتي كلمة الدَّيْن (القرض): إِمّا بالأخذ أو العطاء ما كان لَه أجَل، كما أجله الجَزاءُ والحِسابُ والعِبادةُ والطاعة والمُوَاظِبُة والذُّل والقَهْر والغَلَبَة والاسْتِعْلاء والسلطان والمُلْك والحُكْم والتسيير والتَّدْبير والتَّوْحيدُ، وجميع ما يُتَعَبَّدُ به للإله، من مذاهب وورع وإجبار، فالإله هو الدَّيَّانُ: أي القَهَّارُ، والقاضي، والحاكِمُ، والسائسُ، والحاسِبُ، والمُجازي الذي لا يُضَيِّعُ عَمَلاً، بل يَجْزِي بالخَيْرِ والشَّرِّ. ففي الديانة: عزة ومذلة، وطاعة وعصيان، وعادة في الخير أو الشر، والابتلاء وحمل الإنسان على ما بكره، والخضوع. ومن الدين سميت الحواضر مدن (مدينة) لأنّها تقام فيها طاعةُ ولاة الأمر، فالرجل مَدين والمرآة مَدينَه أذلّهما العمل. فيقال: دينته: أي مَلَّكْتُهُ. ويكنى العالم بها: ابن المدينة. أما إذا قرأنا الكلمة بفتح الدال وسكون الياء‘ أصبح الأمر متعلقا بأمانة في رقبة: فالدين مبلغ من المال مقترض لأجل سد الحاجة. فصاحب الدين يطالب بمستحقاته من المستدان الذي عليه أن يسدد. كذلك الأمر بيننا وبين الله, فالله له دين على رقابنا مقابل خلقه إيانا ورزقه ونعمه وحمايته لنا وفضله علينا. وهذا الدين يجب أن نسدده طوعا أو كرها وذلك بالخضوع لجبار السماوات والأرض.

تعريف الدين

لا يوجد للدين تعريف واضح وثابت هناك العديد من التعاريف للدين، وتتصارع جميعها على محاولة أشمل وادق تعريف لكن في النهاية مثل هذا الموضوع يخضع لإيمان الشخص الذي يضع التعريف وبالتالي يصعب وضع تعريف يرضي جميع الناس. فالدين يتناول واحدة من أقدم نقاط النقاش على الأرض، وفي القدم كان النقاش يتناول شكل وطبيعة الإله الذي يجب أن يعبد، أما في العصر الحديث فيتركز النقاش أساسا حول : وجود أو عدم وجود إله خالق تتوجب عبادته.

لذلك نجد من يحاول تعريف الدين من منطلق إيماني، روحاني، يقيني، أو من منطلق إلحادي، أو من منطلق عقلاني يحاول دراسة الدين كظاهرة اجتماعية أو نفسية أو فلسفية.علماء الاجتماع وعلماء الإنسان ينظرون إلى الدين على انه مجموعة مجردة من القيم والمثل أو الخبرات التي تتطور ضمن المنظومة الثقافية للجماعة البشرية. فالدين البدائي كان من الصعب تمييزه بنظرهم عن العادات الاجتماعية الثقافية التي تستقر في المجتمع لتشكل البعد الروحي له.

من وجهة نظر علماء الدين، الدين لا يمكن اختصاره بمظاهره الاجتماعية والثقافية الجماعية التي لا تشكل إلى مظاهر ناتجة عن الدين وليست الدين أساسا، فالدين بالنسبة لهم هو الوعي والإدراك للمقدس، وهو إحساس بأن الوجود والعالم تم إيجاده بشكل غير طبيعي عن طريق ذات فوق-طبيعية تدعى الإله أو الخالق أو الرب.

بعض العلماء يعتبر هذا "المقدس" نتيجة للخوف والإحساس بعدم القدرة على السيطرة على المصير والحياة : ويؤيدون كلامهم بأن الإنسان عبد النار بداية وعبد النجوم وعبد الريح قبل أن يستطيع أن يسيطر على هذه القوى الطبيعية وبالتالي فإن الإحساس بعدم الأمان هو ما يولد الشعور بالحاجة لوجود خالق. فريدريك شلايرماخر Friedrich Schleiermacher عرف الدين في نهايات القرن الثامن عشر بأنه الشعور بالاعتماد المطلق (العجز المطلق).

هذا التصور الذي يجعل من الدين نتيجة لعجز البشر يحاول أن يطرح فكرة ان الإنسان بعد كل القدرة على السيطرة والتحكم التي حصل عليها في العصر الحديث لم يعد بحاجة إلى مقدس وإيمان، إلا أن عصر ما بعد الحداثة بكل ما جلبه من إحباط ويأس من العالم المثالي الذي يتطلع له الإنسان، شهد عودة واضحة للروحانية تمثلت في العالم الغربي بشكل أساسي على شكل حركات العصر الجديد، أما في العالم الإسلامي فقد تمثلت بعودة حركات الإسلام السياسي والأصولية الإسلامية المعتدلة والمتطرفة. مما يعيد طرح السؤال حول علاقة الدين بالعجز أو إذا كان الإنسان فعلا قادرا عن التخلي عن الإيمان بالمقدس.

الاعتقاد الديني

المعتقد الديني يرتبط عادة بالطبيعة، الوجود، وعبادة إله أو آلهة وإشراك الإلهية في الكون والحياة البشرية. بالتناوب، قد يتعلق أيضا بالقيم والممارسات التي تنتقل من قبل الزعيم الروحي. وفي بعض الديانات، كما في الديانة الإبراهيمية، يقال ان معظم المعتقدات الأساسية كشفت من خلال اله.

المعتقدات الدينية في المسيحية تربط الديانات المختلفة درجات متفاوتة من الأهمية للاعتقاد. تضع المسيحية تركيزا على المعتقد أكثر من الأديان الأخرى. وضعت الكنيسة وعلى امتداد تاريخها العقائد التي تحدد الاعتقاد الصحيح للمسيحيين. كتب لوقا تيموثي جونسون ان "معظم الأديان تركيز على (الممارسة الصحيحة) أكثر من التركيز على العقيدة (العقيدة الصحيحة). خلقت كل من اليهودية والإسلام أنظمة قوانين دقيقة لتوجيه السلوك، وسمحوا بشكل مدهش بحرية التعبير والإدانة والفكرية وكلاهما كان قادرا على التعايش جنبا إلى جنب مع تصريحات قليلة نسبيا عن المعتقدات. تركز البوذية والهندوسية على الممارسات وطقوس التحول بدلا من التركيز على توحيد المعتقد، وتعبر الديانات القبلية عن وجهة نظرهم للواقع من خلال مجموعة متنوعة من الخرافات، وليس 'قاعدة ايمان' لأعضائها." تركز المسيحية بالمقابل تركيزا شديدا على المعتقد. بعض الطوائف المسيحية ليس لديها مذاهب، وخصوصا تلك التي تشكلت منذ الإصلاح، وبعض الطوائف المسيحية مثل شهود يهوه ترفض أسس العقيدة بشكل صريح.

مميزات الدين

يمكن إجمال مميزات الأديان كافة بعدة نقاط :

• الإيمان بوجود إله أو كائنات فوق-طبيعية. معظم الأديان تعتقد بوجود خالق واحد أو عدة خالقين للكون والعالم، قادرين على التحكم بهما وبالبشر وكافة الكائنات الأخرى.
• التمييز بين عالم الأرواح وعالم المادة.
• وجود طقوس عبادية يقصد بها تبجيل المقدس من ذات إلهية وغيرها من الأشياء التي تتصف بالقدسية.
• قانون أخلاقي أو شريعة تشمل الخلاق والحكام التي يجب اتباعها من قبل الناس ويعتقد المؤمنون عادة أنها آتية من الله.
• الصلاة وهي الشكل الأساسي للاتصال بالله أو الآلهة وإظهار التبجيل والخضوع والعرفان.
• رؤية كونية تشرح كيفية خلق العالم وتركيب السماوات والأرض. بعض الأديان تحتوي على آلية للثواب والعقاب، أي كيف ينظم الله شؤون العالم.
• شريعة أو مباديء شرعية لتنظيم حياة المؤمن وفقا للرؤية الكونية التي يقدمها هذا الدين.

وينبغي التمييز بين مفهوم الدين ومفهوم التدين، فالدين يطلق عادة ويراد به مجموع التعاليم المقدسة الصادرة عن مصدر إلهي أو مصدر بشري ذي مكانة دينية عالية تخول له البث في أمور الدين والاجتهاد فيه، في حين أن التدين يحيل في الغالب على الممارسة الفردية أو الاجتماعية لتلك التعاليم الدينية. ومن المؤكد أن هناك فرقا بالضرورة بين ما يقوله الدين وما يمارسه الناس في حيتهم باسم الدين.

أسس الأديان

لكل دين أسس وثوابت توجد في كل دين وهم عشرة أشياء وهم اسم للديانة، مؤسس، كتاب، تقويم ,لغة، نوع معبد ,طقوس، مكان مقدس، وقت ظهور يبدء منه التقويم.^{[بحاجة لمصدر]}

• أولاً المؤسس: والمؤسس هذا هو الشخصية التي أسست العقيدة وثوابتها ونظمها وأول من بشرت عنها وهو الذي أنشئها وأنشاء أو اوحي أليه بالكتاب المقدس لكل عقيدة.
• ثانياً اسم الديانة : يطلق اسم الديانة حسب اسمها المعتقد وله معنى ,أو تطلق حسب اسم منشأها، أو حسب المكان التي خرجت منه.
• ثالثاً الكتاب المقدس: لكل عقيدة كتاب مقدس أو عدة كتب هو الكتاب الذي أنشأه المؤسس الأول أو من أتبعوه من عظام أهل الديانة ويضم الكتاب المقدس كل ما تتعلق به الديانة من أركان، فروض، عقيدة، سلوكيات وأخلاقيات، تشريعات، أجتماعيات, تقويم، أعياد، عبادات، معاملات, ويظهر ذلك الكتاب أو عدة الكتب أما بأعترافها بتاليفه كال(البوذية ,الكنفشيوسية ,الطاوية ,الجينية)أما القول بأنه موحي أو منزل من عند إله أو عدة ألهة مثل (اليهودية، المسيحية، الإسلام، الهندوسية، السيخية، البهائية)
• تقويم : لكل دين تقويمه الخاص الذي يتحكم في كل مواعيده مثل (الأعياد الصيام ومواعيد الحج) ويبدأ التقويم غالباً من وقت أنشاء الدين (هجري للمسلمين، تقويم البديع للبهائيين, ميلادي للمسيحيين، عبراني لليهود)
• لغة: أنزل بها كتابها, أو اللغة التي تتم بها الشعائر.

الخرافة والدين

الخرافة هي التفكير الغير علمي الغير سببي المنفذ على شيء معين، وعليه قد يضم أو يرتبط الدين ببعض الخرافات أو التفكير السحري، وحيث أن الدين بالأساس نظام معقد عن المفاهيم العامة كالأخلاق والتاريخ والمجتمع.فإن الفصل بين الدين والخرافة هو أمر شخصي ومن الصعب الحكم عليه، فغالبا ما يجد المتدينون بدين ما الأشخاص المتدينيين بديانة أخرى أنهم يؤمنون بالخرافات.أيضا ينظر بعض الملحدين واللاأدريين والمشككين للعقائد الدينينة بانها خرافات.بشكل عام توصف الممارسات الدينية بالخرافة عندما تضم اعتقادا في: الأحداث فوق الطبيعية (كالمعجزات)،الحياة ما بعد الموت، التدخلات الالهية، السحر، تناسخ الأرواح والتنبؤات.

الدين والفلسفة

يجتمع الدين والفلسفة في مناطق عديدة، بالأخص في دراسة ما وراء الطبيعة (الميتافيزيقيا) وعلم الكون (الكوزمولوجيا) حيث يقدم كل دين إجابته المميزة للأسئلة الميتافيزيقة والكونية عن طبيعة الوجود والكون والإنسانية والمقدسات.

الدين والعلم

تجمع المعرفة الدينية من النصوص المقدسة، والقادة الروحيين والكشوفات الذاتية. وغالبا ما ينظر المتدينون إلى هذه المعرفة باعتبارها غير محدودة أو مناسبة للإجابة عن أي سؤال، إلا أن آخرين قد ينظرون إليها بأنها مكملة للمعرفة العلمية المعتمدة على الملاحظة الطبيعية. يعتمد المنهج العلمى على اختبار افتراضات لتطوير نظريات عن طريق التجريب وبالتالي فإن الاجابات التي يجاب عنها باستخدام المنهج العلمى هي إجابات عن الكون الفيزيائي عن طريق تنظيم الأدلة الملاحظة ماديا. كل النظريات العلمية عرضة للتعديل إذا تم إيجاد أدلة أخرى لا يستطيع النموذج الحالي تغطيته، على النحو الآخر لا يتم التشكيك في المعرفة الدينية من قبل المتدينيين بها من حيث أنها لا تحاول الإجابة عن ظواهر مادية.
