Signs a colleague is attracted to you

From 3arf

It ought to be easy to tell when a person is attracted to you. However, when you work in the same office as someone else day after day, it is possible to miss the signs, or maybe to think that a colleague has feelings for you when he doesn’t. However, if you can take a step back and be objective for a while, there aresome signsthat a colleague is attracted to you.

If someone has feelings for you, his or her body will not be able to hide it, even if nothing is said. Pay attention to the way someone acts when around you. It could be something obvious, such as being close to your personal space on a regular basis and taking every opportunity to touch you. Then again, it could be something much more subtle, such as his or her leg or foot pointing in your direction. Don’t take the first example of such behaviour as read; take the time to evaluate body language over a few days.

It can be difficult to stare someone in the eyes when you work with him on a daily basis, but if you get the chance, take a good look at his eyes. If the eyes aredilatedwhen looking at you, it could well be that he does have feelings for you. You can go one step further by noticing where his gaze lies when you are in the vicinity. If his eyes are often on you, it’s probably because he enjoys looking at you. On the other hand, if he is shy, he may often gaze in your direction without actually making eye contact.

If someone often asks your opinion, even when it is not strictly necessary, it’s probably because he really wants to know what you think, and not just for the purposes of work either. You may also notice that he talks about you when he doesn’t think you are listening. Then again, you may find that he steadfastly avoids talking to you, either because he is shy and over-awed, or because he is trying hard not to give the impression that he likes you for fear that it will make your working relationship difficult. In that case, you may need to find the opportunity to talk to him outside of work.

Think about how you behave when you like someone. You probably make an extra effort with hair or make-up, smart clothes and the way that you smell. If a colleague in your office suddenly appears to smarten up, and if you catch a whiff of after-shave or perfume when you haven’t before, it could well be for reasons of attraction. Playing with hair, especially if it is longer than average, is another common sign, as is playing with the ear lobe.

Other colleagues may be in a better position than you are to tell if someone is attracted to you, particularly if he is shy and doesn’t like to make eye contact. Listen to their opinion. It could be that your colleague frequently mentions your name when not in your company, or they may notice his eyes following your every move. However, if one or both of you is shy, you may want to be firm about any teasing; if you are interested in a relationship, it could make things a lot more difficult for you if either of you is aware that you are being monitored.

Deciding whether to have a relationship with a colleague can be a difficult one; in some workplaces, it is very much frowned upon, particularly if you work together closely. However, if there is a possibility of a relationship, looking for the signs that he is interested in you in the first place will help you decide whether to develop the relationship any further.
