Rude Colleague Colleague
You wake up in the morning happy to be alive even though you have personal problems, bills, or dealing with health issues. The sun is shining and you are grateful you have a job. Therefore, you get dressed and go to work. The first thing you say to your co-workers is good morning with a smile that says, “I’m on top of the world!” However, this one co-worker asks, “What’s so good about it?” Now, a kind co-worker would have said, “Good Morning!” Here is what you should do if you work with such a rude colleague.
Do not take it personally
Recognize your colleague may be stressed and unable to balance their personal and work life. Unlike you, they cannot find joy in their life, which causes them to take their frustrations out on others. They actually may have had a very bad morning. Therefore, their response is actually genuine and not necessarily directed at you.
Do not allow their rudeness to change you
If your rude colleague has decided to make themselves and others miserable, do not feed into it. Continue to express kindness to the rude co-worker and others on the job. By doing so, your supervisors and employer will recognize your professionalism and charisma.
Do not gossip about the rude colleague to other co-workers
Never run to another co-worker to talk about the rude colleague. Employers do not like gossiping and unprofessional conduct on the job. A true professional only discusses work related issues while working. Also, do not entertain gossiping outside of the workplace because it usually finds its way right back to the office.
Kindness is addictive
Some people may have experienced a hard life. Understand your colleague may have grown up in or is living in an unkind and terrible environment. In addition, they do not know how to show kindness to others. Watching and listening to you, they may feel compelled to change. You will begin to see they will show you the same kindness even if they do not show it to others. Why will they change? You continuously give them some love despite who they are.
People will come to respect you if you never allow a miserable person to change you for the worse. So always, let your light shine. Remember your professional conduct on the job is priority one and this is how to handle a rude colleague on a very good morning.
