Retirement
First of all, embrace your new career, this is a really exciting time of your life. There are minimal restrictions to stop you doing what you want in this phase.
Prepare for your retirement in advance by double checking your finances, insurance policies and entitlements to put yourself in the best financial position.
Relish the opportunity to expand on leisure/craft options and explore new ones.
Give your home a makeover, research ideas and colour schemes. Obtain paint and material samples to prepare costings and synchronise your plans.
Landscape an area of your garden, draw up a plan, research plants and seedlings to gain the desired effect, look into features such as water fountains, bird baths and statues to optimise the look you wish to create.
Plan that longer vacation that you have had to forego in the past and take your time to explore the area you have chosen to visit or take a trip in your own town and check out tourism spots, museums and art galleries.
Prepare and plan to try new options to expand your leisure time. If you have always been interested in sports, check out participation in tournaments through the week and hone your skills with extra practise time. Explore the possibility of managing/coaching a junior team or refereeing/umpire options.
Update your skills, explore options to further study for qualifications or for fun.
Put these new found skills to use with volunteer work, or use skills you already have to mentor people in the field you were working in.
Learn new skills, a new language, computer programs, a hobby you could earn money from to supplement your income. Check out Adult Education in your area or U3A courses.
Join a club in one of your areas of interest:
Love reading, why not join a book club, or take a creative writing course.
Enjoy playing cards join a bridge club, set up a card evening to socialise and expand your friendship base.
Take on a role in a service organisation or club such as Rotary, Lions, Neighbourhood Watch, Guides or Scouting movement.
Join a Gardening Club to learn more about plants and share cuttings and seeds.
Lawn bowls clubs provide practise, tournaments, and an opportunity to expand your friendship base.
There are untold opportunities to become a volunteer with your favourite charity, from pamphlet folding, to office skills, befriending and fundraising.
Take the opportunity to keep in touch with family and friends and renew links with those you have lost touch with. Check out your family tree; there are great sites to do this easily and it is addictive.
Spend time with family members, plan a family BBQ or have a special day with your grandchildren. Create happy memories that will be cherished into the future.
Start a journal with regular entries or a memory book with entries under different headings such as Places I have lived, Employment, Hobbies, Friends, Vacations, Volunteering, Cars I have owned, the list is only limited by your life experience.
Expand on previously started collections, you have more time now to display belongings, research and catalogue.
Simplify your life by decluttering items you no longer use or require, these could be sold to fund new plans.
Create a list of things you would like to do and research how to accomplish items on your list.
Most importantly, enjoy your time, your new pursuits, and expanding your friendship base.
