Many employers like to employ an older person simply because they realise that senior people have a wealth of experience to offer. This is particularly true in some industries like building and construction. Several big D.I.Y stores make a habit of employing older people as they are excellent at advising customers about various aspects home maintenance.

Part time work is also often available to the older person as the employer knows the wages offered to an older person is additional income to a pension and the pensioner is not dependant on the wage solely for an income.

Older people are more punctual and reliable than their younger counterparts and many employers realise this potential source of labour.
