Make something Festive
Thanksgiving, it's that holiday that is hidden somewhere between Halloween and Christmas. With all the commercialization of holidays somehow this one got looked over.
Let's bring Thanksgiving back with some fun Thanksgiving crafts. Since most of the activities are centered around dinner and table let's make crafts for that purpose. We make our little Pilgrim hat place cards every year. They are used for decorations the next year and it also helps up remember the fun guests we have had for Thanksgiving dinner. Here is what you need.
- 3 inch terra-cotta flowerpots*paintbrush*acrylic paints,black, white,red, and blue (or colors of your choice - the black is a must!)*crafting foam in black, yellow,purple, and green*crafting glue*scissors*black fabric paint pen
Paint each of your terra-cotta pots and paint them black. Set them aside and allow them to dry.
Pick you colors and paint a band around the top of each pot. Let it dry.
Place random white dots to decorate the rest of the pot. Dots can easily be made by dipping the handle end of the paintbrush in the white paint and dotting. Let it dry.
Now you want to create a brim. Use a template, a cup or saucer may work, and cut out circle 1/2 inch wider in circumference than the pot opening. Cut the circle from the black crafting foam.
Now you are going to use the color crafting foam to make the buckles. For each pot measure the width of the band. Cut a rectangle of foam that measures about 1/8 inch deeper than the band. Cut out a smaller rectangle from the center. Glue the buckle to the band. Allow to dry.
Get out your black paint pen and write the name of the guest on the colored band. Let it dry.
You can send them home with your guests of save them as memories.
Turkey Toothpick Holders
Supplies*3 1 1/2 inch terra-cotta pots*6 smallest wiggly eyes*3 Popsicle sticks*feathers - brown, orange, red*craft foam in brown, black, red, orange*scissors*craft glue
Draw a turkey head and neck on the brown craft foam and cut out. Make the outline of the pilgrim hat on black craft foam and cut out. Make an orange hat band and beak from the orange foam. Make the red wattle.
Let the gluing begin.Glue the neck and head to the Popsicle stick.Glue the hat band to the hat.Decorate the face with eyes, beak and watter.Glue the hat to the head.Glue the Popsicle stick to the inside of the pot.Glue the feathers to and back and side of the pot.
Add tooth picks.
There you have it some fun and easy additions to your Thanksgiving table.
