Planning a Festive Christmas Dinner
Christmas Dinner should be the most important dinner of the year. It’s a time for celebration, family gathering and good will. You want to make your Christmas Dinner a festive occasion that your dinner guest will remember for years to come.
Start by planning your menu. If you have traditional dishes that you serve for your Christmas Dinner it’s a good idea to continue that as everyone has their favorite that they are expecting. If you stray from those traditional items you may cause havoc at your dinner table.
Use Christmas themed dinner ware such as red and green plates and glasses. Have a Christmas themed table cloth to go on your table, or one that coordinates will with the dinner ware that you have chosen. A lovely Christmas centerpiece for your table will dress it up nicely and promote the spirit of the season. You can even place candle holders on your table that match well with the dinner ware and table cloth. Perhaps a few candles around the room in Christmas colors would also give your dining room a comfortable and seasonal boost. Place your desserts on festive platters. Christmas place mats and cloth napkins will also add a festive touch to your dinner.
Christmas music playing softly is always nice. You could have it coming from the radio since most stations play Christmas music on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Or you could purchase a couple of Christmas CD’s with your favorite tunes on them. Keep it soft though so your guest will still be able to have a pleasant dinner conversation.
Decorating the inside of the home is always fun and really adds to the Christmas spirit. You don’t need to spend a fortune in decorations there are plenty of lovely Christmas decorations that you can purchase at your local dollar store to spruce up your home a bit. You could also simply fill a basket with pine cones and tie a pretty red ribbon on the basket or have pieces of holly placed inside a glass vase on your table with a ribbon tied around the vase. Maybe some silk poinsettias in Christmas baskets or just in wicker baskets placed here and there throughout the rooms. You can mix and match with the red and white and they also come in maroon. A simple candy bowl filled with peppermints and placed on your coffee table can even be festive. If you have extra ornaments that you did not hang on your tree, place them in a large bowl and set them on an end table.
If you want to really make your dinner festive with very little effort, you might consider serving egg nog to your guest as they arrive or serving it with your desserts. If you’re into baking for the season maybe have your guest a goodie bag of treats that you have made such as cookies, fudge or cup cakes. You can place them in festive Ziploc bags or party bags that you can purchase from the dollar store. Give them to your guest as they are leaving and thank them for coming.
