How to not be a Bridezilla

From 3arf

A bridezilla is defined as a woman who, in the course of planning her wedding, exercises or attempts to exercise a high degree of control over all details of the ceremony and reception, not caring at all how many family and friends she alienates along the way.

Here is my step by step guide to not becoming a Bridezilla while panning your wedding:

1.  Always remember that your wedding day is important but in the long run, it is just another day.  Make it as special as you can, but some things are out of your control and that is okay.  For example you cannot control the weather, if you decide to have an outdoor affair, make sure the place can accommodate you inside in the case of rain.

2.  To spend way more money that you have does not start your marriage off on the right foot.  No wedding, no matter how great it is should leave you with a lot of debt going into your marriage.

3.  Stop thinking the wedding is all about you.  Your wedding is also about your future husband, and you should care about his opinion.  Also if you can involve both sets of parents in some way, it makes the wedding day all the more special.

4.  Take your time with your wedding plans.  It takes awhile to get everything done.  Don’t try to do everything last minute that will make you stress out and the more stressed you become, your inner Bridezilla is sure to come out.  The day of your wedding the only thing left for you to do is get yourself beautiful, not running around trying to finish up any details for the reception.

5.  Let other people help.  Don’t think you know better than everyone else.  Family members are great at researching places and music.  Also a team of helpers for the favors can make for a fun night and gets the job done quickly.

6.  I know every bride wants an amazing wedding dress, but remember you will only wear it once, so my advice is to get something pretty that does not break the bank.  Also do not get one that is to small and try to diet your way into it, brides that try this usually fail and  just add more stress leading up to the wedding, and will make your inner Bridezilla come out and show her true colors.

7.  Only choose a few bridesmaids, these need to be very good friends that do not mind spending the money and are very excited for your upcoming marriage.  If you choose girls that are not that interested in you or your wedding, that will lead to bad feelings and also will make you become a Bridezilla.  It is better to have a smaller amount of bridesmaids that want to stand up for you, than so many bridesmaids that don’t really care about you or your wedding.  Try to be accommodating to your friends needs as far as style and budget.  They will appreciate it and maybe return the favor and do the same for their own wedding.
