How to Break into Movies
With the technology and free resources available today, it should not be that hard to break into movies.But, it is a bit more difficult to break into mainstream Hollywood. I would say, do not focus on immediately trying to break into mainstream Hollywoodmovies. But, it does not hurt to audition as an extra.
Ask yourself this question: Why do you want to break into movies?
If you are doing it for the money, you are looking at the wrong profession. Money-wise, the movie industry can become very cutthroat.There are only a handful of actors and actresses that get paid millions of dollars. For the most part, you may not be getting paid millions of dollars.
Also ask yourself: Why do you want to do in movies? There are a number of things to do in movies asides from acting. Regardless, all paths ultimately lead to the same go.Everybody has their role to play in the production.
I would say start small.Attend casting calls. Take on performing and/or technical jobs to get yourself established. Take on any type of job. From there, build up a resume. Take on the non-paying jobs as well. This will add to your resume. The stronger your resume is, the better you are set to break into movies.
Take part in any type of production.
From what I have learned, you do not really need to bother with film school. There are many people that dropped out of film school and became award winning directors. You do not need film school if you are planning to make films. There are many different ways you can learn the craft.As a screenwriter, I have learned on my own on the craft of writing movies and stage plays.
You can make a movie anywhere. All you need is a camera, a script, performers, crew, costumes, an environment, and a bunch of other things. You do not need some big budget to make a movie. Plus, there are plenty of people willing to help work on the movie for free.Because, they are also receiving the same benefits as you are. Also, it helps build up their resumes.
Decide what type of film you want to make. If it is an actual film, you can enter it in all sorts of film festivals. This may take some cash. But, the cash is well worth it. If your film is good enough, it can receive awards and nominations.This is a good way to start on the path of breaking into movies.
If you want to have the film online, you can take advantage of sites such as YouTube. The Internet is a free and powerful resource, use it!You can upload it onto YouTube, MySpace, FaceBook, and a number of other sites. That way, you can build up your exposure and credibility.
Overall, there are many ways to break into movies. You do not necessarily have to go through Hollywood.
