Making Money during Winter School Break

Winter break is too short for most teens to consider a job at a retail facility or other place of employment that depends on staff members to run their business effectively.  However, this does not mean that it is impossible to find a good job that will put a few extra dollars in your pocket. Teens who have the inclination to earn money over winter break may find a number of opportunities that will allow them to earn money during winter break.

Outdoor lover opportunities

Let's face it, teenagers and young college students love being outdoors. There are many opportunities they can take advantage of to earn a few extra dollars during winter break including:

Yard Work - Provided the weather cooperates, teens can earn money shoveling snow or clearing snowbanks from their neighbors walkways and driveways. Teens can let their neighbors know they are available to help with yard cleanups if there has been no snow, including leaf removal and trimming of trees.

Ski Areas - There are ski areas all over the United States that hire help during winter breaks. Primarily, if you are able to ski, answer phones or sell tickets, you may have an opportunity to earn money at a ski area.Ski resort jobshave the added benefit of being fun and may even offer part-time opportunities once break is over.

For those who do not like being outdoors, there are several indoor opportunities that may be available as well. Fortunately, some of these opportunities may also be available once winter break is over.

Sitting - Families often struggle with day care challenges during winter break. This is especially true for parents who have school-aged children who have not required a sitter during school hours.  If you work well with children and are capable of providing a fun atmosphere for children, you may find this is an ideal way to earn money during winter break.

Housekeeping - Holidays often mean guests and working families often do not have time to handle many housekeeping tasks that need doing including decorating for the holidays, cleaning out attics and garages and other similar tasks. You may be able to help your neighbors by offering this service.

Shoppers - Many people hate to shop and having someone offer to do it in their stead is a welcome opportunity. If you love to shop, advertise your services well in advance of winter break by distributing a flyer.  Let your neighbors know you will be happy to handle their grocery shopping or other holiday shopping.

Teens who are looking for fun winter break jobs can find them if they put some thought into what they want to do with their time. Carefully evaluating all of the options available to them including retail opportunities and other options that are not so rigid can mean not only a bit of extra money in their pocket but also a way to fill their days.
