Halloween Games for Young Children
Halloween games for young children that can be played depend on the amount of space, and money being spent on the games. The amount of children playing is also a factor in what games to play. There are a wide variety of games that fit just about any party situation. Musical chairs, Pin the tail on the cat and fishing game are three very simple games that will provide the children with hours of fun.
Musical Chairs
This is a very economical game and can be played anyplace where there are chairs. All that is needed is a good Halloween song, CD player and chairs. Oh don't forget the kids of course.
Amount of Players: 3 or more
Directions:
Set out the same number of chairs as kids playing the game. If there are four kids, set out four chairs. Be sure to set them back to back so that the kids can walk around them, two on one side, the other two on the other side.
Have the children sit in the chairs and begin playing the music. A great song to play for this game is Monster Mash by Bobby Boris Pickett. Have the children get up and walk around the chairs. While they are walking, remove one of the chairs.
Let the music play for a few seconds and then stop the music. Once the music stops, the kids must sit in the chair closest to them. The child left standing is eliminated from the game. Continue playing the music and remove a chair until only one chair is left. This child who ends up in the one chair is the winner. A great prize for this game is a Halloween book.
Pin the Tail on the Cat
This is a very easy and inexpensive game to create and play.
Items Needed:
• White poster board
• Black poster board
• Scotch tape
• Masking tape
• Sharpie marker
• Blindfold
Directions:
Cut the cat out of the black poster board leaving off the tail.
Cut several tails out of the black poster board. Put a piece of masking tape on each tail and write each child's name on the tape with the sharpie marker.
Place a piece of scotch tape on the tail so that the child will be able to place it on the cat.
Game Play
The children will put the blindfold on one at a time, be spun around three times and then place their tail on the cat. This is very simple and very fun. This game does not really have a winner or loser. It is just funny to see where the tails end up. If one child is very accurate he can be determined the winner and given a prize. A good prize for this game is a Halloween coloring book and crayons.
Fishing Game
This is a great game that does require some preparation but can be done in a small home and at minimal expense.
The object of the game is to catch something. The kids get some cool prizes when playing this game.
Items needed:
• Large box or table
• 3 foot dowel
• 3 feet of any kind of string
• Clothes pin
• Trinkets and candy for prizes
Directions:
Make a large box into a pond wall for the kids to go fishing. Or use a table for the pond. The object is to have a place where the kids can put their fishing pole.
Make a pole out of the dowel by tying the string to the end of the dowel. Tie the clothespin to the end of the stirring so that it can represent the hook.
Game Play
One person is inside the pond with the prizes while each child throws in his or her line. The person in the pond places a gift on the end of the line using the clothes pin and then tugs on the line to let the child know he or she has a "fish".
This game sounds simple but kids love it. They have a great time pretending to fish and enjoy the prizes they get. Prizes can range from a candy bar to a dollar store truck. Kids will love any prize they get.
These three games are very simple, they are easy and inexpensive to create and will provide hours of entertainment for young ghosts and goblins on Halloween.
