Halloween Candy 2010
As Halloween 2010 approaches, the time for gratifying the sweet tooth with luscious delights nears and descending upon us is the delicious decision of what those delights will be. Purchasing candy which is your personal favorite is an option to consider if you prefer to distribute something delectable that you would enjoy snacking on yourself in between shouts of “trick-or- treat!” at your front door.
Often we stick to the “tried and true” when making our candy purchases. Favorites each year have included the many traditional chocolates by Hershey’s, Mars, Nestles, and Peter Paul. There are always new varieties and presentations of these pleasures and Halloween 2010 is no exception. There are new fillings in M&M’s, such as the different varieties of chocolate, nuts, and now coconut and strawberried peanut butter, and the very latest being the M&M pretzel candies. New also this fall is the Three Musketeers Truffle Crisp Bar. The manufacturers of all of these chocolates have stood the test of time as “the can’t go wrong” Halloween candy makers- 2010, or otherwise. Find them at a grocery store near you.
If you prefer to make a radically different selection for Halloween 2010, the candy kitchens have heard you and have responded! For the truly discerning appreciator of fine confections, the famous Lindt company has created the Orange Pumpkin Face truffle. These individually wrapped smooth and silky bon-bons that have made the Lindt company famous can be found on the Candy Warehouse website. With a bit of lead time to order these, they are sure to bring a smile to the face of any trick-or-treater or to please any adult party-goer. Purchase an extra box or two. Even with that, there may not be any left over for you after Halloween night as your guests over-indulge themselves or trick-or-treaters return for seconds!
Another tasty novelty is the caramel apple flavored lollipop available on the Blair Candy website. Everyone has sampled cherry, orange, lemon, and lime lollipops. The new caramel apple flavor puts a new face on that white paper stick. Buy some as a sweet curiosity.
For that special chocolate connoisseur in your life, how about a pumpkin spice caramel square from Ghirardelli? This tantalizing gourmet treat may be just the thing for the trick-or-treater that has tasted it all.
If you live in an area that attracts ghosts and goblins from far and wide, a bag of Smarties may fit the bill. Smarties are a classic, known for their tart taste, are inexpensive, peanut-free, and are sold in large packages. Smarties in a new form include Smarties candy money. Mary-Janes are another mouth-watering, chewy, molasses- flavored candy that has become intrinsic to Halloween. These and the popular peanut butter kisses can be purchased in bulk to serve multitudes. Though products of the Necco company for nearly a century, the taste never grows old. Enjoy as you “try them again for the first time!”*
Stay away from novelties that have seasonal wrappings that are not fine in quality. When the fun wrappings are removed, there won’t be much to savor. They may be less expensive than other chocolates and there may be a reason for this. Don’t buy Tootsie Rolls, Bazooka bubble gum, Jaw Breakers and Fireballs- sure to be a disappointment.
Always consider whether or not you will enjoy the remaining candy. You will feel better distributing a treat that can be appreciated rather than one that will end up in the garbage can. Think about how exciting it will be to do some nibbling of your own while passing out goodies to your dear little Halloween visitors!
