Fun Thanksgiving Crafts with Candy Corn
Candy cornis a terrific sculpting material, and the décor and ideas of what to sculpt are endless. For Thanksgiving, make a corn cob. Teachers can use coloring pages and students can fill in the pictures with candy corn for anything from Indians toturkeysand pilgrims. Use candy corn in baked goods to make Thanksgiving Day symbols.
Jewelry
Because the shape of candy corn is a triangle, it works well as a medium for making necklaces and bracelets. Remind people that the Indians traded trinkets of all kinds with the pilgrims. Just like stores, string the candy corn together to make the jewelry items. Besides jewelry, any symbols like feathers are easy to make.
Sculpture
Use flour as a paste and glue candy corn pieces together into a sculpture of the Mayflower. Use powdered sugar to paint the corn different colors. This way the sculptures remain edible. Make a cornucopia by gluing many corns together. The artist will not want to keep these sculptures for long because ants will come to the party if left around very long. Crafters use different household forms; then they sculpt around them. Forms include candles, dough, fruits and vegetables, or any solid form that the corn will stick to, or that creates the beginning shape.
Coloring pages
Let children glue the candy corn to heavy paper or cardboard with flour paste. The pictures are available online or in coloring books. Children have creative minds and will do surprising things with this just do not allow them to eat the paper. The picture should have a Thanksgiving scene; however, educators and parents may use this activity for many different holidays.
Baked goods
Make cookies or cupcakes and, again using flour paste, create candy-corn holiday themes on the baked items. This project allows all ages to participate and makes a tasty snack when participants finish the activity.
Corn cob
Make a corn cob by gluing the candy corn to a banana. The banana becomes the cob, and the candy corn is on the outside, like maize. Forget the glue, and use cookie dough. The candy corn will stick to the rolled up cookie dough to make the form.
Shapes
Use the shapes to teach geometric figures. One candy corn is a triangle. Two is a diamond or rhombus shape. Four makes a square. Afterwards, students may eat the candy corn or use the shapes for another art project.
Candy corn is a fun material to use because it is edible and comes in a fun shape to help crafters utilize their imaginations to the fullest.
