Halloween is a great time of year for kids and adults alike with dressing up, trick or treating and pumpkin carving being some of the great activities on offer. Dressing up can be great fun to do yourself, although if you want to see some great costumes a visit to a Halloween parade can be a great idea. There are many held throughout the US with the following being some of the best of these.

Rutland City Halloween Parade

The Rutland Halloween Parade is one of the longest running Halloween parades on the US. It has a history that dates back to 1960 and it has been a feature of Rutland City since this time. It is one of the biggest Halloween parades in America,  with the 2010 event being scheduled for Saturday October 30. It will start at 6.30pm and features a range of floats, bands and marchers in some great Halloween costumes. The parade is the highlight of three days of Halloween events in Rutland and if you are in the area around the 30 October it can be a great way to spend Halloween.

New York’s Village Halloween Parade

This is another of the big USA Halloween parades and it is also a long running event with the 2010 parade being the 37th time it has been held. It is scheduled to take place on 31 October, running from around 7.00pm to 10pm. It features a range of floats, bands, dancers and marchers and if you turn up in costume you can join in the fun by marching. Joining the parade is only permitted on 6th Avenue, between Canal and Spring Street and this can be a great way to enjoy the experience. Many people also turn out to watch the parade with an estimated 2 million people usually attending, as well as many more watching the parade live on TV. The New York’s Village Halloween Parade is one of the best events staged in New York during the year and is certainly a great way to spend Halloween.

Vienna Halloween Parade

This parade has been a tradition in Vienna for 64 years now and the 2010 event is set to be held at 7.00pm on Wednesday 27 October. The parade actually originated as a group of local kids gathering to show off their Halloween costumes, although it has grown over the years and now usually comprise more than 30,000 participants. The parade runs along Maple Avenue in Vienna and usually lasts for around 2 hours. Kids still play a big part in the event and they generally head the parade as it sets off on its way around Vienna.

Toms River Halloween Parade

This years Toms River Halloween Parade will be staged on Saturday 30 October and is expected to have a line up of around 6,000 participants. Preparation for the parade will be ongoing for the day with the start time expected to be around 7.00pm. The parade will start at the Toms River Center before heading out into and around the township. The Toms River Halloween Parade has been staged for over 70 years now and people that want to take part can register to do so on the day of the event. The parade is popular, with around 100,000 spectators expected and if you are in the New Jersey area around Halloween it is a good way to spend the 30 October.

Anoka Halloween Parade

Anoka in Minnesota bills itself as the “Halloween Capital of the World” and is said to be the first US city to have staged a Halloween Parade, which is did in the 1920’s. It has remained a part of the cities tradition to this day and there are actually a few parades held each year. The main one is the Grand Day Parade, which will be staged at 1.00pm on Saturday 30 October in 2010. However there are a range of other events held in the city from Wednesday 20 October all the way through to the 30 October. These include pumpkin carving contests, a Halloween bonfire and the Big Parade of Little People which is for school kids. With so many events to be staged Anoka can be an excellent location to celebrate Halloween.
