ALT-1 Top five Controversial Halloween Costumes of 2011
Controversial Halloween costumes are basically any outfit that is offensive to others. Halloween is a time when you can dress up as scary as you want and nobody will blink an eye. However, there are certain costumes out there that shouldn't really be in existance. Some prove to be controversially offensive to even the most open-minded of people.
1. Anna Rexia
When you first look at this outfit it appears to be just a sexy skeleton dress with added accessories. On further investigation though it is actually making light of the very serious eating disorder, known as anorexia. Not only does the dress have a skeleton design it also has a measuring tape belt as an accessory. The designers really seem to be mocking this disease with the outfit, making this one of the top 5 controversial outfits of 2011.
2. Illegal Alien
An orange jumpsuit, alien mask, and green card in hand all make this costume an eye-opener. All the pro-illegal immigrations supporters were obviously up in arms about this costume. All that's missing is the "Illegal Alien" logo over the front of the jumpsuit, no wait, that's there too just in case you didn't know what the outfit was all about. It's obvious why this costume is controversial and offensive to certain groups of people.
3. Ku Klux Klan Ice Cream Cone
Yes, you heard it correctly someone was dressed as an ice cream cone and mistaken for a member of the KKK. The Florida store that had the mascot had to eventually stop advertising their ice cream with the person dressed as an ice cream cone. The pointed white hood with sprinkles looked like the KKK costume to people passing by. Many people complained and a lot of business was lost due to the unintentionally controversial costume.
4. Child Terrorist
The title says it all, the photo of a kid wearing explosive gear and Arabian head dress caused much controversy. For good reason this is in the top 5 most controversial outfits for 2011. In the particular photo a child has a cheesy grin while wearing the costume.
5. Vato Loco
Causing great controversy in the Latino community this costume sports a racist latex mask. Complete with teardrop, spider tattoo, and bandana it was not exactly a hit with many people. Negative stereotypes galore this mask is most definately among the top 5 controversial costumes for 2011.
Some may say these are only controversial depending on your point of view. All of these are offensive to either a group of people or to everyone, and perhaps the "brave" designers of these costumes should think twice about having them on the market.
