ALT-1 Best Person when your best Man is a Woman
One thing is for sure I love things that are different, fun and unique. I like things that makes a person who they are. So what is wrong with a woman being your bestman so to speak at your wedding? Absolutely nothing. I have actually been asked to do this, and I can't wait for the wedding to take place.
I think of it as the same honor as being the maid of honor for one of my best girlfriends which I have had the honor of doing as well. Obviously the person you have chosen to be by your side, to stand up for you, is a person you know quite well. You really like this person, you trust this person, and you are more than likely bestfriends, or brother and sister or relatives who have always been close. You share secrets and probably pretty much everything and anything about one another. You respect the groom for who he has chosen to be his wife, and you are happy with that decision.
As the groom you may get a lot of questions about why you chose a woman as your bestman. If the people with the question knows you well enough then they will respect that you have chosen this person because that person is your bestfriend and has your best interest at heart.
So when your "bestman" is a woman you treat her like a woman, you treat her like your bestfriend, you continue to tell your jokes, share your secrets. You will talk about what she will wear and more than likely you aren't as fashion savvy as her or perhaps you could be so you will come to an agreement on what there is to wear. The only thing is she is a woman and should still get a bouquet to hold, afterall she is in the wedding party but she may not want the boutineer/corsage but if she chooses to do so that is fine too. The other thing she should be given a proper wedding party gift. Maybe instead of given her a stein or something you are given all the men you can give her a piece of jewelry that will enhance her wedding day attire.
Her part, she is now responsible to make a toast. She needs to understand that is now her issue and she must be prepared. She will also be responsible to hold a stag or some kind of gathering for the groom and his buddies, she will be responsible to hold the rings for the special day. She needs to assist the groom with all the wedding issues and details that he needs help handling. She also needs to help him get to the church on time for the big event as well as on time for the rehearsal and try and keep him from being hung over.
The person you have chosen to be your "bestman" even though, she is a woman is the person you want to be there beside you on one of the most important days of your life. This is a special day, the choice you made is the choice that will be in all your pictures for years to come. You will be able to look at whoever and proudly state that was my best woman, your bestfriend.
