Why you should Wear a Helmet when Riding a Motorcycle
A helmet is a very important accessory when riding a motorcycle. It can literally save your life. The following are reasons why you should always wear one.
When you get into a motorcycle accident you can be much more at risk than when you are in a car. When you get in an accident in a automobile, you will have your car around you to protect you. Many people walk away from car accidents without a scratch. Cars have numerous safety features to protect you such as airbags and frames meant to take the brunt of the force of the accident. When you are riding a motorcycle, there is nothing between you and whatever is hitting you. If your bike goes down, it will be you right against the road. Many people are also thrown from their motorcycles and may literally land far from their bike. With how bad these are, a helmet might be one of the few things protecting you.
Head injuries form motorcycle accidents are common and can create havoc. If you hit your head very hard you can end up with a concussion or far worse. You could have bleeding by your brain. Many of those with a brain hemorrhage die. You can get brain damage. A helmet can help protect your head and your brain. It obviously cannot stop every injury and you will still be more vulnerable than in a car, but it can still make a huge difference. You can literally have two people fall the same way, hit their heads and the one wearing the helmet will be okay while the other one will not.
Wearing a helmet also sends a good message for children and others. You might tell your kids to wear helmets while they are biking but if you then do not wear a helmet while motorcycling they may think of you as a hypocrite. Think about whether you would want them to wear a helmet if they were on the bike. Also think about all of the other people around who would be devastated if you got in a serious accident and the injury was much worse because of the lack of a helmet.
If you are still unsure of whether you need a helmet, you only need read statistics of the injuries that can come and stories where someone was saved – or would have been – because of a helmet. Of course, it is also the law in some places. You look “cool” enough riding the motorcycle – now look smart by wearing the helmet.
