Why us Employers should Require Employees Speak English

From 3arf

In a perfect world, yes, employers should require employees to speak English. But unfortunately, in some places it's the other way around. There are so many places now that require employees to be bi-lingual. This is completely unfair. This is America, and our primary language is English. If you were to go to work in any other country, I guarantee you their employees are required to speak their native language.

I understand the problem though, with so many immigrants coming into our country, they have a hard time finding a job because of the language barrier, but at the same time I don't feel as if people of our country should be punished because of this.

If people are crossing our borders to find a better life for themselves and their families, then they need to be required to learn the language. Before they are given citizenship, they should be able to speak and understand the English language.

My husband went back to school last year. He wanted to get into the medical profession. Once he graduated, he had a really difficult time finding a job that didn't require him to be bi-lingual. He speaks several different languages, but felt he was being discriminated against for being an American. Sadly, this is the case in many places of business, no matter what area or profession you enter.

It's good to know several different languages, but to be forced to speak them in our own country is absurd. If everyone was required to speak English by their employers, then we wouldn't have to worry about people having a hard time finding jobs.

When I was in school we were taught to read and speak in English. Now, you have to have a foreign language in order to graduate. Is this fair? No, I don't believe it is. I think if students are interested in learning a foreign language, they can pursue it, but it should not be forced upon them.

There are immigrants taking our jobs each day, most of them don't speak any English, and are not required to learn it. When we, American citizens have a hard time finding a job because we don't speak a foreign language, then something is seriously wrong.
