Why some Employers Dislike Job Interviews

From 3arf

Many job seekers dislike the interview process because it can be nerve racking. Have you ever stopped to wonder about the other side of the desk? The interview process is not necessarily any easier for employers. An employer has to sit and go through numerous applications to narrow the stack down to the ones they will need to interview. The actual interview is the moment of truth for employers because that is when they get match a name with a face. Anyone can make themselves sound good on paper, it is how a person conducts themselves that really counts. This is where theproblemscan begin for the employer, and why some really dislike interviews.

Over-exaggeration

Many job seekers will embellish some of the information on their application. For example two months of college does not count as college educated. Babysitting does not count as managerial experience. Job seekers often over-exaggerate in an effort to make themselves sound qualified for the position they are applying for. What they do not seem to realize is that the employer will be asking questions and checking out the information provided. What it comes down to is making oneself out to be a liar, does not impress potential employers.

Inappropriate conduct

Some job seekers arrive to the interview late (strike number one), are poorly dressed (strike number two) and speak like they talking to a friend instead of a potential employer. Some job seekers will waltz into a business as of they own the place! You can see how annoying that would be to any employer. Chewing gum or candy is another annoyance during an interview because it looks unprofessional. Wearing wrinkled clothes is not nearly as bad as wearing clothes that make you look like you are ready to go hang out at the club.

Lack of research

One of the biggest problems some employers run into during interviews is job seekers that do not have a clue what the company actually does. It would seem rather pointless to apply for a job at a company you know nothing about. When the employer inevitably starts asking questions about the company and the job seeker has no answer, or worse yet; asks what the name of the company is, well you see how that would go.

Unprepared

One thing that can be very upsetting to an employer is an interviewee who is not prepared for the interview. They forget something in their car or worse yet, at home. They may not have brought all of the required materials with them to fill out the application or get distracted by having to answer their cell phone during the interview. These are all not good things for an employer to have to deal with.

What is sad is that these items only scratch the surface as to why some employers truly dislike the interview process. The next time you are complaining about having to go on an interview, think about what it would be like to be the interviewer. Job seekers only have to do one interview and then can leave, employers have to endure lots of interviews back to back. Maybe now you understand a little bit better as to why some employers are a little frazzled some days.
