Where to Purchase Oem Honda Motorcycle Parts
Late last summer we received a 1980 Honda CB650 Custom motorcycle that had spent the previous five years outside without shelter or attention. Better yet, it had spent the past year and a half laying on its right side in a field. The chain was stiff and the back brake was locked, giving the guys a fight trying to get it out of the field and onto the trailer for the trip home. That is when I received a crash course in restoring a vintage motorcycle.
While most of the parts you will end up needing can be found used or aftermarket, if you really want to restore that old bike go on the hunt for the OEM parts. In my search, I started with a search for parts on Google. The problem is that you will turn up 231,000 search results just for Honda motorcycles. I have already dealt with several of them and checked out many sites. Here is a brief description of the ones that I found most useful and helpful.
BikeBandit.com where the motto is "Get it Fast. Get it Right. Get Riding." is a great site. A little slow at times but they have parts for just about everything from 1959 to 2009. Simply pick your year and model to view the schematic diagrams and parts lists. They offer live help and shipping through either FedEx or USPS with most orders shipping within 3 to 5 business days. All major credit/debit cards are accepted as well as the BikeBandit.com Gift Card.
Located in Muskegon, Michigan; Babbitt's Online was one of the first sites I visited. You will find their Honda parts at www.hondapartshouse.com where you can search for your parts by year and model. They also have schematic diagrams and parts lists like BikeBandit.com. The biggest difference between these two is this one uses UPS rather than FedEx and they only go back to 1974.
If you bike is one of two 1980 models or newer, CheapCycleParts.com may be a place of interest. Unfortunately, they do not carry my particular model so I do not know a lot about them. However, they do load very quickly; have great schematic diagrams that are easy to see and a bonus of color diagrams. They do not stock most of their parts so the shipping may be a little longer.
I have dealt with www.motorcycle-superstore.com a few times and I find their shipping to be one of the fastest. Start your search by choosing between the types of bike you have whether it be a street bike, cruiser, dirt, ATV or scooter. You can also search by particular departments if you like. If by chance you order the wrong part, returns are simple and efficient.
Unfortunately, there are just too many sites for one person to visit, thankfully, you can get lucky enough to find the parts your hunting within the first few hits. Good luck and enjoy the thrill. If you want a challenge try hunting eBay for the part, you are looking for. Chances are if it is not on an auction then you can find it in the "buy it now" section. Safe riding.
