How to Replace a 2005 Honda Cr v Dome Light
The 2005 Honda CR-V has several interior overhead lights. There are two map lights above the front seats, a dome light above the back seats, and another overhead light just inside the rear door. These bulbs typically last a long time because they are not used very often, but they can burn out just like your headlights or brake lights. If the center dome light above the back seat stops working, this guide will walk you through replacing the bulb.First, you'll need to purchase a replacement bulb if you don't already have one. Sylvania makes a replacement bulb that comes either by itself or in a two-pack (part #DE3175, or DE3175LL for longer-life bulbs). Any local auto parts store should stock this bulb; just give them your year, make and model, and they should be able to find the correct bulb for you. Or, you could take the burnt-out bulb in with you to make sure you get the right replacement bulb. If you don't have an auto parts store nearby, you can buy replacement bulbs online atAutoZone.com,OReillyAuto.com, andAmazon.com.Once you have a new bulb, installing it is a simple process. Climb into either the front seat or the rear seat (depending on which one is more comfortable for you to access the dome light) and switch the dome light control to the Off position. Then remove the dome light's plastic cover. To do this, use a thin flathead screwdriver or a pocket knife to pry up the cover from the rear side (toward the back of the CR-V) where there are two slight indentations. Once you've pried up the cover at each of these two points, the cover should come off easily. The old bulb will now be revealed, mounted in two metal clips, one at each end of the bulb. The bulb itself resembles a large glass fuse, and it's the same bulb used in many other vehicles. To remove the bad bulb, simply pull it straight down, out of its housing, one end first and then the other. If the bulb is bad, you should be able to see a difference in the filament between the old bulb and the new bulb. With the old bulb removed, you can now install the new bulb. Insert one end of the bulb - it doesn't matter which side goes where - into one side of the metal housing, and then push the other side of the bulb into the other metal clip, until both sides are securely in place. To make sure the bulb is good and you have it installed correctly, turn the dome light control to the On position (while making sure not to look directly at the bulb to protect your eyes).Replace the plastic cover by reattaching the side that faces the front of the car first, then the side that faces the rear of the car. You may have to give the rear side a slightly hard push to get it to snap into place. Make sure you are installing the cover in the correct orientation by checking that the tabs on either side of the cover and the slots where the cover attaches line up.That's all there is to it. Now your dome light has a new bulb that will hopefully last for the life of the vehicle. But if it doesn't, you'll know how to change it next time.
