What are the cause and Effects for Raising the Driving Age
Raising the Driving Age to 18
Thesis Statement: If the driving age were raised to 18 there would be fewer of the following problems: fewer teenagers driving, more parental control, and fewer accidents.
If the driving age were raised from 16 to 18, there would be less of a chance that teenagers would wreck because of several factors: speeding, inexperience, and peer pressure. The increased age to legally drive has several advantages, such as decreased accidents and automobile fatalities. Insurance rates would decrease and parental control would be extended to allow the teen more time to mature. Parents would have more control over where their teenagers go and what they are doing with their friends. Teenagers who get behind the wheel think they are invincible and they know they would have to follow the rules of the road. If the driving age were raised to 18, then their parents would be able to teach them more about the value of going the speed limit and to teach them about the dangers of drinking and driving by talking with them. The parents would be able to give them examples of stories that have happened to them or other people as a result of speeding along the highway.
Although, this additional time should be spent educating teenagers and allowing them to practice student driving they should also get breaks in between as to not to overwhelm them. Teenagers might not appreciate their parents and efforts to stop them from doing things that would endanger their lives. However, it would encourage them to do better on their homework, try harder in school, and not be irresponsible with their friends showing their parents that they are responsible and want their license. Furthermore, there is a split on this issue: parents want to raise the age, but the most teens do not because they think that earning the privilege to drive is a right-of-passage and thinking that if you can drive, you can do anything you put your mind to. Actually driving shows how mature your teenager really is. There are many drivers, teen and adult, who sense that they can do no wrong, which in some instances is a hard lesson to learn. They start speeding and end up either in a ditch, killing them, or killing somebody else. Rising the driving age would help teens get more practice and supervised driving experience by their parents.Driving comes with great responsibility, not only for the teenager, but for others in the car with them as well as others on the road. A lot of teenagers do not realize that. Even though parents would feel better if they could ride along with their children it is time to let them gain the experience and confidence to drive. Making it mandatory for kids to take drivers education courses in high school would also get them ready to drive. One way of doing that is making it a part of the curriculum in high school, which would prove to them and their parents that they have the experience and determination to get that training they need.As we can all see, raising the drivers age has its positive side therefore, we as parents need to decide whether or not to let our kids drive.At this point we can conclude that raising the legal age of driving from 16 to 18 has definite advantages. The law has been changed yet until then it remains that the parents responsibility to weight the consequences of whether to allow their teenager to drive or to make them wait until they have more experience.
