Most Dangerous Things People do while Driving
Driving is not something that should be undertaken lightly. Being distracted for even a split second can result in an accident. When someone first gets their license it is normal for them to be alert to everything that is going on around them, they do not want to make a mistake. A new driver tends to be very cautious, but as they get used to driving more and become comfortable with it many drivers tend to pick up bad habits that can cause them to be distracted.
One of the most dangerous things people do while driving is texting. This was not a problem several years ago but now communication technology has evolved so much and it is so quick and easy, we can respond to someone just by typing out a few words and sending it off. Many people overestimate their skill at multitasking when it comes to texting. People mistakenly believe that they can text and pay attention to what is going on around them at the same time. But anything that diverts your attention away from driving, even for a second is not good. So many accidents, fatal ones at that, have occurred because someone was distracted by texting while driving. It is not worth losing your life or causing someone else to lose theirs just for the sake of sending a text message.
Talking on the phone, while not as distracting as texting, is also a dangerous thing to try and do at the same time as driving. Often we are driving at high speeds and driving conditions can change in a split second as someone switches lanes without looking or slams on their brakes. If a driver is engrossed in their phone conversation their reaction time will not be as quick as it normally is.
Putting on makeup is a task that should not be done in a moving vehicle. If a driver is applying makeup and attempting to look at themselves while applying it, by checking themselves out in a mirror, they are distracted. They are not paying full attention to what is going on in front of them. A driver can not look in the mirror to apply makeup and at the same time be fully aware of what is going on around them. Again, it only takes a split second for something to happen and if you are not ready to respond to changing driving conditions you may miss it and not have time to react properly.
Many people try and save time by eating on the go. This activity may seem harmless, but could be very dangerous. If you are eating while driving usually you are using at least one hand to eat with, so if something happens and you need to make a quick manuver chances are it will be a lot harder with one hand filled with food.
Driving does need to be taken seriously. When we get into a car if we are not giving our full attention to the road and what is going on around us we are putting ourselves and other people's lives at risk.
