What Men really want for Christmas

From 3arf

It is difficult to buy Christmas gifts for men, especially if you are a woman. You trudge around the shops looking and thinking desperately about what the men in your life want for Christmas. Male comedians make jokes around Christmas time about getting socks as presents. People buy socks in sheer desperation, when they cannot think anything else to buy as a gift for men. Socks are useful but they are not what men really dream about Santa Claus bringing for them. What men really want for Christmas is what everyone else wants something that will suit them and their lifestyle, hobbies, pastimes and passions.

To find a Christmas gift that a man really wants, you need first to think about the man for whom you are buying the gift. Men are individuals, think about him, as a person, think about his life, job, hobbies, pastimes, likes and dislikes.

Some men adore gadgets. They may play computer games, or like computer programmes or attachments for their computers. They may like MP3 players or other portable music devices.

Many men love their cars and they would be delighted with a car-related gift. A global positioning system is the electrical equivalent of a motoring atlas. It would help someone who travels a great deal for work or who enjoys travelling around for leisure. A good motoring atlas is a good idea for older people, who may not be au fait with modern technology. If the man, for whom you are buying a gift, is the type who likes to keep his car looking as though it were still in the showroom, a leather for his car windows is a great gift or a car cleaning kit. You could make a gift basket containing enough car shampoo, waxes, polishes, and cleaning equipment to keep this type of man happy.

Think about what the man you are buying the gift for likes to do. What are his hobbies, or is there something that he keeps saying that he would like to do as a hobby. He may enjoy carpentry, woodturning, metalwork, pottery or other crafts, perhaps a gift connected with his hobby would delight him on Christmas morning. If he enjoys sport, fishing, gardening or gardening there are many gifts that you could buy.

Perhaps he has mentioned that he would like to take up painting or sculpting and perhaps you could buy a gift that would help him on his way. X’s husband had said for many years that he would like to adopt oil painting as a hobby but never did. X bought him oil paints, canvasses and brushes. When X’s family discovered that was what she was buying him for Christmas, other family members bought the rest of his oil painting equipment, painting knives, a palette and other items.

Most men hate getting clothes for Christmas, but there are some men who really enjoy clothes. Those that do enjoy clothes, generally have very particular tastes so be careful and know exactly what he likes.

Most men like to smell nice, toiletries and fragrances are another idea. However, some men, like women, always wear a certain fragrance. Older men may think that aftershave is a little sissy.

The man you are buying a Christmas gift for may enjoy reading. Book tokens or books may fit the bill. If you are buying books, check his taste, perhaps there is a genre, or an author, that he really enjoys.

Men sometimes have a very sweet tooth. Some old-fashioned sweets that remind him of his childhood might please him. There are many online shops where you can buy old-fashioned sweets and candy. C adores Liquorice all-sorts, his sister-in-law B wanted to buy him a Christmas gift. B scoured the shops and managed to buy old-fashioned Liquorice all-sorts loose in quantity. She found a nice tin to hold them. C was delighted with his sweet treat and thoroughly enjoyed B’s gift.

Think creatively about your gift, men living alone, or those on limited incomes, might enjoy a gift basket filled with food or gourmet treats. Such a man may enjoy some baked goods or some cooked meals to put in the freezer.

It is a popular conception that it is difficult to buy gifts for men. Many gifts delight men. The problem comes when you think about men collectively rather than the particular man for whom you are buying the gift. Thinking about the individual man, his life, circumstances, job, hobbies, pastimes, and passions, should point you towards the perfect gift for each of the men in your life.
