Use Hazard Lights Driving to the Hospital – No

From 3arf

Hazard Lights, also known as Four-Way Flashers, should be used only when someone is driving slower than the posted speed limit and in the safest, slowest lane possible or if they are going to pull over and stop in the break-down lane. These lights should also be used if the car actually stalls or breaks down mid-traffic and it cannot be driven any further due to mechanical problems. They should also be used if someone absolutely has to "double-park" on a street.

The hazard lights indicate to other drivers that something is probably wrong with the vehicle and the car could do anything at any second, ie. stop suddenly or swerve to the left or to the right. Usually, someone that requires immediate medical attention would be in a hurry and they should try to refrain from speeding and practice safe and normal driving habits, if anyone in this world actually has them. Speeding nervously and frantically, not keeping a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you, not adhering to traffic laws and not getting the whole picture, all while possibly having to comfort the sick or wounded, could lead to a possible accident (which may include a fatality) or a police officer pulling them over for a moving violation and possibly issuing them a ticket which would only delay their progress further, though I would think and hope that if someone was in dire need of medical care, the aforementioned police officer would move them along and escort them to the hospital, as safely as possible. Even the slightest fender bender could turn into a timely ordeal if the other driver insists on exchanging license, contact and insurance information, regardless of who is sick, injured, or dying in your vehicle.

In any event, people should try their hardest to travel via ambulance, or, in extreme cases, a helicopter, though I can understand that it is sometimes necessary to take matters into their own hands, like when a pregnant woman begins experiencing labor pains, and they must get to the hospital on their own. I just hope that everyone can keep their cool to help keep the roads safe, or, safer than they already are. Just, please, I beg of you, for your safety and mine, do not drive in normal traffic conditions with the hazard lights switched on because this can be the source of mass confusion and end up doing more harm than good, possibly, and maybe probably, creating more anxiously hurried and potentially hazardous trips to the hospital.
