Upside of Unemployment

From 3arf

There are always two ways to see any given situation. Being unemployed can seem like a bad thing but there is an upside to losing your job. The biggest upside is time. What you choose to do with this precious gift is up to you. When you were working, the feeling of not having enough hours in the day often caused feelings of stress and guilt. Becoming unemployed frees up your time and now you can use that time to your advantage.

Re-evaluation of your priorities is just one of the many things you can do with this gift of time. You can look back on your working career and decide where you future goals will be. Being unemployed gives you the option of making choices that you could not easily do while your were committed to a job. You may now have the chance to return to school in order to further your education or to change careers. Time allows you the opportunity to investigate all the pros and cons of making this move. You can focus on creating a better resume in order to move up in your desired field. The possibilities are as endless as you want them to be.

Another upside to being unemployed is to be able to spend a little bit of time doing what you didn't have time for in the past. This is temporary because you will eventually return to work, but in the meantime, there is nothing wrong with taking advantage of your free time. Whether it is having more time for a favorite past-time or finally cleaning out your attic, doing these activities will help you to keep positive about your future. Becoming unemployed can often make people get depressed because they are worried about finances and their future employment possibilities. If you use some of your newly-found time to do things that make you feel good, it will help you to keep a more positive attitude.

Not working also allows you the freedom to spend more time with friends and family. You can reconnect with friends and you never know where that could lead you. With jobs harder to find, networking with friends could open up new doors for you. Spending time with friends who are also unemployed can help to give you ideas about how to go about finding new employment. You may even decide to become self-employed. Aside from your daily job search, you have time to research how to go about starting your own business. Time to do what you choose is a gift that is the upside of being unemployed. Like any other gift, use it wisely because nothing good lasts forever.
