Unemployment is a Chance for Opportunity
Unemployment can be one of the most profitable experiences you can have.
Yup. You read that correctly... profitable. Alright... it is damn scary proposition. No one feels comfortable with unemployment. Hopefully you have some savings and or unemployment benefits to help you over the difficult part of being unemployed. If you have a little bit of elbow room, money wise, you can really use the time as a launch pad to start your own business.
♦ Chance to start an online career
There are a lot of great ways tomake money online. Some will create small trickle’s others will create floods. I will not say that plugging in and trying to start a business is a turn-key operation that will turn on the internet ATM, but in your time off from “work” you can surely set the ground work to possibly escape from your 9-5 career.
♦ Planning and budgeting
The first thing you must realize is how much you need to get by. It will not be as much as you were making at your 9-5 job. Think about it for a second. You can write off a lot of taxes as business expenses. Little dry cleaning. Lower amounts on gas. Daycare. Clothes. Lunches. The list of little expenses that are a part of a 9-5 job go on and on. For the sake of argument let’s say you need 75% of what you made at your last job to “get by” with an online income. I would not, “never look” for another job until I am near that 75%, but that figure should hopefully be doable and the time off you are “forced” to take can give you time to set up some groundwork for it.
♦ Be frugal: Save where you can
So now you are unemployed what can you do as a temporary stopgap and to set yourself up for the future. Here are some quick, down and dirt steps to recovering from unemployment and hopefully going into your next job with AT LEAST some form of passive income. Cut back where you can. Cable Bills. Magazine subscriptions. All the little things
♦ Take the obvious steps for more money and lower bills
File for unemployment benefits. Call banks about loan forgiveness. Many credit card and banks have “loan forgiveness” clauses which you may have been paying in to. Even if they do not, they may put your loans “on hold” for a few months. You may also want to restructure existing loans for lower payouts. Perhaps evenconsider debt consolidation. Fill out applications and apply for a new job, though you want to try and make a go of it, never leave all your eggs in one basket.
♦ Learn aboutinternet marketingand ways to make aliving writing online.
Try to find aprofitable nicheto make money with affiliate programs, direct sales and information products. Make somemoney article writingand hopefully get some residual income from sites likeHelium,Associated Content and Suite 101.
All of these things should provide you with a small start to a career ofmaking some money. None of these will likely replace a full time income right away. They need to be worked at to become really profitable. But they should be able to earn you a little money in the interim and can be a great source of income in the long term.
♦ Losing your job is bad, but perhaps it is not all bad.
So do not view losing your job as a completely horrible thing. View it as a potential chance to change your paradigm and make some money long term. It is not easy to start by any means, but if your work it, the opportunity is there.
