Tips for Celebrating the new Year after having a Baby

From 3arf

Having a baby changes your life. It’s inevitable, yet sometimes it feels hard to give up old traditions. One of them can be the way holidays have been celebrated. And one such holiday would be New Years Eve. It’s a celebration to send the old year out with a bang, and ring in the new. So what happens when you have a young addition to your family?Really, nothing has to change, unless you wish it to. If you wish to have a night out with your friends or loved one, that’s perfectly okay. Just be sure that you leave your children with someone you can trust. If you are breast-feeding, it will require that you pump enough breast milk for your baby’s caretaker to feed the baby. Additionally, be sure to leave contact numbers in case you need to be reached. If you want to enjoy an alcoholic beverage, there is no reason to worry about yourmilk being contaminated long term. Alcohol in breast milk will measure the same as your blood-alcohol level. As the body metabolizes the alcohol, that level will decrease until it reaches zero. So a good rule of thumb, is if you can feel the effects of the alcohol, it is still present in your breast milk. There is no need to pump, and dump, the breast milk as the alcohol will not remain. Only pump if engorgement is feeling uncomfortable.  As with anything, please use your best judgment. Drink only in moderation and always utilize a designated driver.New Year's Eve can be a fun time to include your children as well though. As your children get older, it can be fun to start new traditions. Instead of imbibing a few cocktails, the night can be spent indulging your sweet tooth. Make your own sundae bars that can be enjoyed be all, including your little ones once they are old enough. Puzzles and board games can fill the time, while everyone is waiting for the ball to drop.Don’t forget to enjoy making a few resolutions and predictions, ones to be enjoyed and provide mild challenges for the year to come. This also can be a fun game for young children to enjoy.  Each following year, you’ll be able to look back and see how you did with prior resolutions, and whether your predictions came true.Whatever the night brings you, there is no reason to feel guilty if those plans don’t include the littlest addition to the family. There will be many holidays for years to come, that can all be shared in one way or another.
