The Differences between Effective and Ineffective Leadership Skills
Oh the joy of being a leader. Leadership is trust. Leadership is responsibility. Leadership is an honor. Leadership is sacrifice. Leadership is service.
Some say leaders are born. I used to stand by that definition before, but over the years, through study and experience, I have come to realize, without doubt that leaders are made. Leaders are created.
Every human is a leader. Some take up the responsibility through opportunities while some don't.
Effective leadership skills are inherent in all humans. All one has to do is develop them and they will manifest.
Now what is the difference between effective and ineffective leadership skills?
• Impart passion and zeal into other workers
Effective leadership skills would impart passion and zeal into other workers. They'd finally discover a reason to be good at what they do. They feel important to the organization and suddenly develop a willingness in their hearts to go extra miles.
Ineffective leadership skills will do just the opposite: the zeal and passion of the workers decline with time and some of them start resigning.
• Produce result with ease and joy
Effective leadership skills produce result with ease and joy through the co-operation of everybody. At the end, everybody is honored. The leader doesn't take all the credit.
Ineffective leadership skills find it difficult to produce result and when results are finally produced, they only come by conditioning the workers to work under pressure.
• Produces a good rapport and relationship among workers
Effective leadership skills lead to a good rapport and relationship among the workers. They all respect each other, and this respect and love grow with time.
Ineffective leadership skills create a leader that is seen as a "prima donna". They don't want him but they can't do without him.
• Places the leader as one who serves
Effective leadership skills create a leader who knows fully well that he is a leader but conditions himself to occupy the position of the one who serves. He serves more than the other workers. And due to this, he is highly respected. The workers would rather "die" than insult him.
Ineffective leadership skills create a leader that is excessively bossy. Workers should only show him respect in order to remain in the job.
• The leader feels honored to lead the team
Effective leadership skills create a leader that feels honored to lead the team. He knows he wasn't chosen because he is the most intelligent or has the highest IQ, but just because he was available as at then. He considers himself favored and honored to lead, and so respects other workers.
Ineffective leadership skills create a leader that thinks be knows better than other workers.
