Ten Things Employers look for
This day in age more than ever it is harder to get into employment whether you have experience in the field of employment that you are applying to or not. Many jobs are far and few between now and more and more people struggle with gainingemploymentwith the credit crunch.
Employers are now more stringent than ever seeking dependable and reliable employees and individuals who want to work and work hard for their company.
One quality that an employer will be focusing on when reading your CV, during the interview and your references is your punctuality; this is important to employers as they want somebody who will be at work on time or earlier to be ready to work and somebody who will come back from breaks on time too.
An employer also will be looking at how hard working you are and employers can sense from the depth and detail of your CV how much effort you have put into your CV and covering letter, employers also test this by questioning you about your CV during an interview so that they know that you have written it and not somebody else. Employers will also be combing through what your references have had to say about how hard working you are and how much attention to detail you pay to your work and how thorough you are.
Thirdly an employer will be focusing on how you present yourself, how you dress and how you take pride or not in your personal presentation, employers want to employ people who look smart and take care in their appearance. This shows an employer how you care about yourself and how you care about how you present yourself to others.
Employers will be looking at your previous education, the qualifications and grades that you have and whether you have pursued higher education or taken qualifications in other employments to further yourself in your employment role.
Employers also like to examine how long you tend to stay in employments and your reasons for leaving your employments. It is important for an employer to know whether you have left your employment for a stop gap from work such as having a family or having time out from employment due to health for example, whether you have been terminated from previous employments or whether you do not seem to be able to stay in an employment for long.
Employers look at your health and like to know how much time that you have had off work usually in the past 12 months and they also like to know what was wrong with you, although employers cannot discriminate against you bylaw;Employers do not tend to want to employ somebody who will be unreliable and sickly.
When reading through your references or speaking to your previous employers, a potential employer will be wanting to know how you work as part of a team and whether or not you are a team player. This is important as employers want employees to not only be hard working but also to be able to work with existing employees and to be able to help colleagues with their work and allow other employees to help you in your work without any problems or tensions.
Potential employers also want to know what you have to offer, they are looking for why your CV stands out over other applicants and what more you have to offer than other applicants. Employers are always seeking the hardest working individual that they can possibly employ.
When reading through your CV employers want to know what else interests you and what kind of an individual you are outside of the work place, employers like to see that you pursue hobbies and interests and that you do not just go to work and return home, they like to see how positive you are about your life, this shows to them your focus and drive in your life.
Finally employers are looking for little hints and ways that you are known to go above and beyond for your current or previous employments, such as taking over time and honouring over time, staying later at work if required and whether you attempt or do take on extra duties on top of your current duties in your employment.
These are the ten things that employers look for with applicants; it is a very competitive market and theeconomyhas been so damaged that many organisations are closing down and going into administration. Employers nowadays have to look for that little something extra in their employees.
