Steps for a Good Interview

From 3arf

Ten years ago, you could walk up to almost any job and without anything but a good interview, you went from unemployed to working in less than a week. Now it is much harder to get a job at all, and almost impossible to get even an interview without a college degree. You need to do many things before your first interview, but here are a few simple things to do in order to get you on the right track.

1. Start Early

A job will change your life. What people don't know is that when you get a job, the employer wants a trustworthy and smart person. Don't be a troublemaker. Pay attention to your classes, and get good grades. A good school record makes it much easier to get a job. Also, choose your career path early on, and organize your school classes according to that path.

2. Go to College

These days, if your resume states that you only have a high school degree, your resume is very likely to pop back up a week later in the local landfill. It is almost impossible to get a job without some form of college degree.

3. Stay out of the Justice System

This is likely the easiest of the three. For most people, it shouldn't be that hard to stay out of trouble. Everyone is going to get detention sometime in their lives, but going to jail or Juvenile Hall is a completely different story. A good record makes a good resume.

These steps start early. The following are for later.

1. Be Professional

Companies won't usually hire people that don't act professional. When you go into your interview, don't use slang words and don't go in dressed like a rough rider. Dress in a suit and tie, and use proper grammar. This will raise your chances considerably.

2. Have a good resume

The better your resume, the better the chance you will have a good interview and get the job. Its as simple as that. More college, more scholarships, better record, better grades, they all help towards your resume.

3. Look Sharp

Though this isn't the main idea of the interview, first impressions last for a lifetime. Wear a black suit, preferably a white dress shirt, and a good tie. Style your hair professionally, and wear your best shoes. If you look a cut above the rest, they'll put you a cut above the rest.

These are the basic steps for a good interview, but each interview varies with the job and the person. Just remember- a job is one of the most important things for your life. One interview could ruin it all, or, if you follow the steps, it could very well be the best day of your entire life.
