The Nuances of a Good Physical Projection

From 3arf

Unless you spend all your time browsing the web in your pajamas, you need to present a good first impression in the real world. Whether you're seeking new employment or working a standard office job, you are judged by the clothes you wear and your conduct. Creating a good impression requires following some basic rules.

In today's world, first impressions are considered important even though those first impressions may be false. Few people saw Albert Einstein as anything but sloppy, yet his theory or relativity changed the world. Benjamin Franklin realized that he needed to work on some personal faults and listed 17 of them he worked on every month. He became one of America's finest entrepreneurs.

Consider some of your own faults that may be holding you back. If you work on them diligently enough, people will see you in a new light, more willing to grant you the respect you deserve.

On the outside

Few people would prefer the close company of someone who hasn't washed in weeks. Body odor is a turnoff even if you are impeccably dressed. You don't need to be clean and neat if you're working in an auto shop, but most jobs require a dress code. A suit and tie at a wedding ceremony or a job interview are accepted dress codes. Birthday parties or a movie matinee require less casual wear. A well groomed and shaven look projects professionalism and trust.

The inside appearance

If you're a pack-a-day smoker with a hacking cough, you're unlikely to carry on a stimulating conversation. Yellow fingers and smoker's breath tells folks about what's happening on the inside. Extra folds of blubber mark you as someone not concerned about health. Your presence will be offensive to some.

Your conversation

If your language is peppered with swear words, curses and innuendos, most people you meet are likely to see you as an uneducated buffoon. Your gestures and body language determines your level of trust. Smooth talkers and con artists always do their best to leave a good impression , though their motives are suspect. Excessive talking, especially about oneself is a turnoff. Good conversation starts with the ability to listen with an open mind.

Listening skills

Everyone needs to learn how to listen. It's not something people cultivate, but the person who does listen makes the talker feel he is educated and trustworthy. The endless talker tries to project his extensive knowledge to hide his insecurities. Conversation is an art that requires more listening and less talk. Genuine listening is a lost art. A great conversationalist is a superior listener who encourages others to talk about themselves. Even though he may say few words, he is able to control the flow of conversation.

Eye contact

Avoiding eye contact tells the other person you have something to hide. Much avoidance is due to a lack of self-respect. Any confident man or woman projects confidence while looking at the eyes of their listener.

Working on cultivating good first impressions is a good way to advance through life with better friends, a better paying job and general success.
