Skills and Training Needed to become an Aerobics Instructor
An aerobics instructor is a great position in which you can help others become physically fit (and keep yourself so in the process!) There are different skills and training that you must possess in order to accomplosh this, including the following.
You must be physically fit
Of course you cannot be an aerobics instructor if you are huffing and puffing or need to take a break in the middle of a thirty minute routine. You have to be in good enough shape not only to do all of the exercises but to be able to calmly talk to the people and instruct them as you are doing it. Many potential aerobics instructors have been in a lot of aerobics classes themselves and have a good amount of endurance. They are usually in good shape.
You can come up with (or find in a legitimate manner) good routines
You want your aerobics class to be interesting. Many aerobics instructors are quasi-choreographers, coming up with fun exercise routines that work out the muscles and keep the heart rate up while keeping people interested. You may be teaching a variety of different classes so you need to be able to handle all of the different ones and remember what is in each one. The different classes an aerobics instructor teachers are often geared towards different types of people who might have different goals (i.e. one might be very high intensity for people who are very fit while others may be much more low key for people who are just starting to exercise). You need to be able to remember these routines. A lot of aerobics instructors have already formulated these in the past.
You need to be able to motivate and lead people
You are going to be their teacher, cheerleader and trainer all in one. When the people are getting tired, you want to be able to motivate them to keep going for just a little longer.
You need to have training and knowledge on the correct ways to do the aerobics moves
If someone is doing the moves wrong, then they can hurt themselves. As you watch the class, you should be able to spot it when someone needs to change something and help them to do it the right way.
Some potential aerobics instructors have worked with others in the field in order to learn the skills. They may have co-taught a class in order to get acclimated to the job. The above skills and training are some that may be required.
