Self Employment how to Create an Income using your Talents
If you think of your talents as an important part of who you are, there’s no reason to try to create an income outside of them if self-employment is an option open to you. This is a matter of sticking more or less with what you know, and while you can certainly try something new even within your talents, it all starts with using them and not concerning yourself with other unfamiliar talents you might have or would like to teach yourself until and unless they emerge in the process. Getting the kind of income you want as soon as possible to use however you’d like to use it can be the path of least resistance if your most familiar talents are at work.
Not everyone is going to put jobs directly on the market for every talent there is. Sometimes you have to find available work by being afreelancerand not by looking up an ad; on the contrary, you might find it to be a good idea to create your own ads and publish them wherever someone looking to hire in your field will see them. (With the right skills, you can even put these together all by yourself, but if you’re good at, e.g., logo design, you’ll still need the guidance of a design professionalabout what to do with a logo you create or otherwise whether another one will work better.) In most cases, this is done online or in print; however, from the perspective of those looking to hire, you shouldn’t expect to be hired simply because of being a walk-in or because someone referred you to a job. There’s plenty of advice to go around about what to include in your resume and what it should look like, and this often varies according to the job you want or what a specific person is looking for.
Of course, there’s a big difference between self-employment and a traditional job in an actual workplace. If you’re already working for someone who sets your hours and hourly rate for you, you’ll know that quitting that job for any reason requires some tact plus confidence that alternative income from being self-employed will be reliable to replace your current income or better for the foreseeable future. Otherwise, you’ll be right back to job searching and thus headed back to the same situation you were trying to get out of (if your search is just for a job you know you can do and not necessarily something you’d want to do for the rest of your life).
Self-employment that emphasizes your talents provides all the flexibility you can ask for and may heighten your chances of overall job satisfaction if the popular term for it, which is simply to “be your own boss”, is accurate. Sitting under an authority figure, which you can get used to from early on in life because of being in school, is something you’ll likely want reprieve from sooner or later if you don’t think your line of work (or learning, for that matter) has to be a torture.
