Reasons to be self Employed
Self-employment has many appeals but not everyone is successful at running their own businesses. There are varied reasons for why some people are successful at running their own business and why others are not. Nonetheless, if you are seriously considering becoming self-employed, there are wonderful reasons why self-employment would be ideal for your health and finances.
Unlimited income
When you work as an employee in a company that is not your own, there is always a glass ceiling. Your salary is decided upon for you and you have no control over whether or not you will get a pay raise. Even worse, if the company you work for has a worker’s union you are forced to pay union dues whether you support the union’s causes or not. A self-employed worker gets to set their own pay rates and their own hours. There is never any fear of being demoted or forced to take a pay cut when you are self-employed. You can earn as much money as you want and never have to fear about having an employer cut back your hours because business is slow. The sky is the limit and every penny you earn is yours to keep!
Set your own hours
There are 24 hours in a day and one of the best things about being self-employed is you can choose which hours are more suitable for you to get your work done. Working between 9 am to 5 pm is ideal for some people but that may not be ideal for others. Some people function better in the afternoon and evening. Another benefit of setting your own hours is you can work as much overtime as you want and never have to worry about exceeding the legal overtime limit.
More control
Self-employed workers have more control over their time and can choose to work around what is happening in their personal life instead of scheduling their personal lives around their work schedule. Work can be adjusted around your child’s soccer practice times. Weddings, funerals and special occasions can be attended without having to ask “the boss’” permission. As a self-employed worker, you ARE the boss. If a family member is ill or needs you, you can adjust your work schedule to assist them without having any fear of an employer penalizing you.
Creative liberty
Creating a new business from scratch or leading a franchise is like creating a work of art. There is nothing more beautiful in the business world than designing a creative vision of the company of your dreams and running it your own way. As a self-employed worker you are the sole driving and creative force behind your business and you don’t have to share the credit of your hard work with anyone you don’t want to! Being forced to tolerate co-workers you don’t respect is no longer an issue when you are self-employed. You can market your company any way you want and if you wish to hire someone to work for you, the choice is yours to select someone who you respect.
Before taking the leap to become self-employed, be sure to research the field you plan to work in and create a business plan outlining your goals and vision for your company. Working for yourself can work for you as long as you plan wisely and make a determined effort to succeed.
