Pumkin Decorating

From 3arf

There are so many crafty ways to decorate your pumpkins for Halloween and the fall season without having to carve them. You can avoid the mess with a few crafty and inexpensive solutions.

If you are still trying to keep that traditional jack o lantern look, try painting your pumpkin using black craft paint for the eyes, nose and mouth.  You can also add many types of embellishments to it such as earrings, a hat, fake spiders or anything that satisfies your taste.

If you would like to get really fancy with your pumpkin try taking masking tape and taping a pattern to your pumpkin, you can spell out words, make a face or have it abstract. After you have the pumpkin all taped off, use spray paint in the color of your choice, and apply a heavy coat to the pumpkin. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly on the pumpkin and then gently remove your masking tape. It will look great and you will be pleased with the outcome.  For a more colorful pumpkin use more colors of spray paint.

A fun and easy idea for the kids would be to let them decorate their pumpkin with the pieces of a Mister or Ms. Potato Head.  This is an idea that they can almost do by themselves without any help from mom or dad.  Encourage them to be creative you will be surprised at how many silly ideas they can come up with to make their pumpkin special.

To stay with the Halloween theme have a witch hat to place on top of the pumpkin and decorate the face using markers or paint to  resemble that of a witch.  You can even use some play dough or clay to make her nose and to give her warts. Get creative with her and make her as witch like as you can, the scarier the better.

For those who just want to stay with the fall look and not have the Halloween look you could take your pumpkin and set it on a bed of leaves from in your yard and have fall colored ribbons tied to the pumpkin stem and let them stream down the sides of the pumpkin. Try setting some smaller pumpkins and ears of Indian corn around it for color and to exaggerate the season. Also, using some miniature hay bales and fall colored mums would give you a great look and would make a beautiful centerpiece or a great eye catcher for the front porch or patio.

Use your imagination when creating your pumpkin. Go with a style that suites you and appeals to your eye. There is no limit and there are no boundaries to decorating your pumpkins. Use them as centerpieces, yard décor or patio décor. Place them at the foot of your steps, next to entry ways or on the coffee table in the den.  Think outside the box and decorate and use your pumpkin in the way it suits you best.
