A Workaholic is a Perfectionist
Somehow a workaholic is never satisfied with the current completed job. He is always looking to make it better and this could prove to be a double edged sword. Even a doing a menial task of drawing a straight line can become daunting for the person working under a workaholic.
A Workaholic is Impatient / Edgy
When someone is not on the same wavelength as the workaholic, he tends to get impatient. If someone does not submit a project or report by the given deadline, his reaction could be severe. You will find many workaholics become addicted to blood pressure controlling tablets overtime because they simply cannot accept the delays.
A Workaholic Does Not Trust / Delegate
A workaholic have the innate need to do everything right and on time. This leads to the overly compulsive behavior of doing everything by himself. He does not trust others enough to delegate tasks accordingly. He would rather burn out doing the job himself than assign it. Either he believes that no one has his vision or that if the job is given to others, they will do substandard work or will not get it done on time.
A Workaholic Lacks Self Confidence
Being edgy and having trust issues will automatically point to having low self confidence. This is because, the workaholic needs to get things done in a certain way to feel good. However, even that does not seem to be good enough once it is completed. The recurring “just a little more” notion tend to drive the workaholic.
In summary, workaholics tend to be one too many in the current economy where competition is cut throat and the only way to the top is to be beyond excellence in one’s field of work. However, as the playing field is leveled and he ages into retirement, he would have accomplished a lot of things at the expense of much more important things in his life; relationships. There is a cost associated with everything and even being top notch is not spared.
