The Character Traits of an Outstanding Employee

From 3arf

There are good employees and there are outstanding employees. The outstanding ones tend to go above and beyond what is expected of them and that will bode well for them in the most competitive workplaces.

The CBS News websitementions some of the following things that contribute to an employee being outstanding. "The best employees seem to be a little bit off but in a good way, they are not afraid to shake things up and make the workplace a more exciting atmosphere and they are not afraid to stretch the status quo". "Along with this trait they have to understand when to reel things in. In other words they need to know when to play and when to be more serious. They should also know how to think on their feet and adapt quickly to shifting priorities and do what it takes to get things done. Outstanding employees know when to jump in and make sure that things go smoothly even if it isn't in their jump description. In other words they will go out of their way to make sure an order for example gets sent out so it will not be late".

The National Institute of Health websitelists some other things that will make an employee really stand out. "Passion is a very important quality as passion helps one to have an almost tireless drive to pursue goals and passion also brings out enthusiasm and appreciation of work. Talent is a trait that is often overlooked. Talent doesn't automatically mean that someone has a natural ability for their work, it also means that an employee challenges themselves to acquire the skills related to superior performance. Determination of achieving a goal is another overlooked aspect in an exceptional employee, they are able to visualize the goal and work hard to make it happen".

The E How websitestates that a couple other things that an excellent employee "will have is extensive job knowledge and strong interpersonal and communications skills. It can be helpful to have a strong job knowledge as its easier to understand the function of the job and the inner workings of a company. Although the most knowledgeable do not always know all the answers, they are more of aware of where and how to find the information that they need. Effective communication also shows leadership ability even if the person does not hold a supervisory position".

It will help the employee in the long run if they develop the skills of an outstanding worker as they will be highly valued and sought after in the slumping economy. It will also give them an upper hand in the job search.
