Review of Nestlé Milkybar White Chocolate Advent Calendar
An Advent calendar is a special calendar which is used to count or celebrate the days of Advent in anticipation of Christmas. Milkybar is a white chocolate confection that has been produced by Nestlé since the 1930s. The one I’m writing about is Nestlé Milkybar White Chocolate Advent Calendar.
The Packaging:
Nestlé Milkybar White Chocolate Advent Calendar comes in a recyclable cardboard box. There is a picture of an animated boy taking most spaces in the front. The names of Milkybar writen in navy blue colour and White Chocolate Advent Calendar in red colour are just displayed above the picture. The logo of Nestlé and a short ingredients description are on the top left corner.
At the back of the box there are a sign that you can cut around the dotted line: Santa! Please stop here and a letter written by the Milkybar kid to suggest you hanging this sign on your door to help Santa find your house. Last but not least at the bottom Nestle further explains its ingredients.
The ingredients and nutrition:
The Milkybar is made from white chocolate pieces, sugar, whole cow’s milk(26%), cocoa butter, whey powder, emulsifier lecithin etc. May contain traces of nuts.
As part of standard packaging there are two facts about nutritional values per 100g and per piece. According to Child Guideline Daily Amounts for 5-10 years each Milkybar provides 1% of Energy, 1% of Energy and 2% of Fat.
Inside the Box:
Nestlé Milkybar White Chocolate Advent Calendar begins on December 1 and finishes on December 24. There are 24 windows on the box, one of which is opened every day during Advent. In each window you can find a small white milk chocolate shaped in different Christmas decorations.
The price and availablity:
In the UK you can get Nestlé Milkybar White Chocolate Advent Calendar in most supermarkets such as Sainsbury's, Tesco, ASDA etc. The price varies from store to store. As a guide it’s priced £1.99 for 85g in Sainsbury's.
My opinion:
It was my first time to try an Advent calendar and I expected to explore the religious spirit of Christmas at most. So I opened the windows as Nestlé suggested. However every time I just found a small piece of chocolate that has a very simple Christmas decoration, such as snowman, Christmas tree and Christmas hat. Then I realised Nestlé Milkybar White Chocolate Advent Calendar is more secular in content.
Apart from the lack of religious content the chocolate itself is too small for me. I hardly taste the chocolate favour. To me it is more like a hard milky sweet. I know the customers of the product are targeted to children under 10 years, but I don’t think many children would enjoy the taste. And the quantity per piece is also too small for them.
In conclusion I would not buy Nestlé Milkybar White Chocolate Advent Calendar for any children. I would like to find one that is made of quality chocolate and has more information about Christmas too.
