Most Dangerous Highways in the USA
Highways are without a doubt the most often used route for drivers that like to cover large distances in their cars. Here in the US, people like to use highways to get from one city to another as well as from one state to another. Highways are very important as well as crucial to inter-state transportation. There are bus services that use highways to transport passengers from city to city as well as state to state and thus highways are very crucial to the transportation system of any country, developed or undeveloped.
There are however certain dangers or harms of using the highways especially since on an highway you drive at a much higher speed than you would on ordinary roads. Therefore, there is always a sort of level of risk that one must take when using the highway. Here in the US, there are some pretty dangerous highways, whether they have steep turns or unseen potholes, every driver should be careful when driving on the following highways:
- The Colorado 550 when travelling from Ouray to Silverton:
The most dangerous aspect of this highway is that it is only a two lane highway which means that there are always going to be instances of drivers wanting to overtake the slow driver ahead of him, increasing the chances for head on collision with a car coming from the other direction. This highway also has a lot of S-curves which can cause drivers to fall off the track and off the road if they aren’t paying full attention.
- The Los Angeles 101 to I-405:
This is perhaps the busiest highway in all of America. It is considered that because it connects the east side of Los Angeles with the downtown area which means that it will always be jam packed. The traffic is usually bumper to bumper with drivers trying to cut and cross other drivers, increasing the chances of accidents.
- Atlanta’s I-285 at the I-85 interchange:
The reason why the I-285 at Atlanta is so dangerous in winter is because of extremely cold conditions that freeze and cause ice to form on the roads and ramps causing many accidents. It is always busy because traffic from 5 different areas comes to meet at the I-285.
- The San Diego I-5:
The I-5 is infected with DUI cases all the time mainly because this road connects San Diego to Mexico. Every year tons of students crossover to Mexico because of a lower drinking age which basically leaves this road flooded with drunken drivers whilst they enter San Diego again from Mexico.
There are tons of other very dangerous highways in the US and without proper regulation of these highways which is always done through the help of law enforcement agencies, the chances of accidents occurring always increases.
