Loud Muffler

From 3arf

Muffler problems can be an annoying to any and everyone on the road, especially to the driver of the vehicle, since he/she has the pleasure of hearing it everywhere they go. There are a few reasons why the muffler could be loud. The main reason is that there is a hole in the muffler or the parts on the inside of the muffler are gone.

If there is a hole in the muffler the best thing to do is replace the muffler. Some vehicles you can go to any auto store and purchase what is called a bolt on muffler kit for your specific car. This is a simple way to replace a muffler. All you have to do is unscrew the old muffler and replace it with the new muffler. The only additional things you may need to get is bolts and flanges to make sure that there is no leaks at the connections.

For other vehicles it gets a little more complicated. You can either get a direct fit muffler or a universal muffler. With these there is going to be some welding involved and possibly customizing pipes to fit your vehicle and the new muffler. If you are not experienced at this you would be better off taking it to a mechanic and having them do this for you.

If your muffler has exploded (Blown out), this happens when gasoline gets into your exhaust and boom it blows the muffler out. If this is the case, most likely there is a couple problems.  If this happens you are most likely going to need an entire new exhaust system. Catalytic converter all the way back. This of course is going to be more costly. I highly recommend that if this happens to you, to take your car into a mechanic and have them check out your entire system to determine what the problem is, because this may just be an exhaust problem or it may be something a little more serious.

If you are not experienced mechanic the best thing to do is to take your vehicle to a auto repair facility and have them check it out for you. It could be something as simple as a muffler replacement, to a complete Cat back repair.  The sooner that you do it, the better it can be. If you wait to long more issues may come about, which of course means more money that comes out of your pocket.
