How to Write a Creative thank you Card

From 3arf

Writing a thank you card, whether it's being mailed through the postal service, or hand delivered, can be unique and memorable with a few easy tips. With computers and e-mail, it's too easy for thank you notes to be zapped quickly through cyber space, and usually lack a personal touch to the person you are thanking. Handwriting your thank you card creates a more personalized, and therefore more meaningful one.

Start the thank you card with a compliment. Tell him/her something that compliments them, physically, emotionally, or anything in a heartfelt way. What did you notice that would make a difference to them?

Include a photo, or small item that is light weight or somewhat flat. A nice herbal flavored teabag, a handmade bookmark, a packet of their favorite flower seeds a favorite hand written recipe on a recipe card.Write a message that you were thinking of them, or that they might like the item you included.

Thank the person, or business, for the item(s) or their gesture of goodwill. If it is money you are writing a thank you note for, write the person(s) a note of how you plan to save or spend the gift. Try avoiding the word "money" and consider words such as gift, present, surprise, and amazed, and astounded, to describe why you are writing.

Ask a question to the recipient of the thank you card you are writing. By asking a question you can maintain the relationship, keep it stronger, and build on it.

Include a quote or inspirational verse from the Bible if appropriate. There are several Web sites on the Internet that list quotes by category or topic. Visit your local library for books that contain famous quotes, or check your home book shelves.

Write about a good memory you had with this person. If this person has influenced you in the past, in a positive way, let them know by writing in the thank you card. If there is something you can comment on pertaining to the future, write that as well or in place of the past.

Consider alternative words for "thank you". For example, words such as helpful, supportive, and caring. In place of using the words "I am writing", consider words such as grateful, appreciate, and value, to describe why you are writing the thank you note.

Use humor to write your thank you note. When possible and appropriate, consider anything funny that you can write about, comment about, or reference to, in your thank you note.

If children are writing thank you notes, they can personalize them by adding jokes, riddles, drawing pictures, and by using different colored writing tools.
