How to Stop being a Workaholic

Some people just love to work because they hope to achieve some goal that has yet to be realized. Some people work because they have nothing better to do with their time. Some people work because if they did not work bad things would happen soon after.

Yes, the fear of being homeless, on the street with nothing to eat is a powerful incentive to be employed for money so that shelter and food can be purchased or grown for consumption.

On the other hand, people who do nothing but work, eat and sleep are known as workaholics. They know nothing but work and they do whatever it takes to stay alive just so that they can keep working. Are you a workaholic? If so, you like the time each day to pass quickly. You arise before the Sun and you go to sleep long after the sun sets, right?

As you know, “A penny saved is a penny earned.” When you are working you do not have time to spend the money you earned so you must do something with it. As luck would have it, one day you decide that there is more to life than just work. Have you burned out? Doing so causes some people simply to stop work and seek other ways to spend the time each day.

That is, until they go broke and come to the realization that working is a part of living for everyone who is alive on Earth. Not working is just as bad as working all of the time so you have to balance or split your time between working and doing some other things that also make you happy.

You can entertain yourself by having a hobby, watching TV or seeing a live show. You can dine out once in a while and take a loved one on a date. There is a better way to live by doing things that are not work related. Such things take your mind away from your primary means of support. Doing so prevents you from being burned out, so to speak.

Being burned out causes you to not think clearly so it takes more time to accomplish a task. Eventually, you do not want to do anything but sleep. Your brain is telling you to stop work so that it can rest. If you have reached this point in your daily routine you have burned out, even if you do not believe that is possible.

The best thing to do is take a few days away from work because if you do not you are now at risk of causing physical and/or mental damage to yourself. You do want to remain healthy and alive so that some day you can retire from the workforce and finally have time to enjoy yourself.

The truth of the matter is that most people who do nothing but work usually end up in the “nut house” because they became insane or they died many years before their natural time to die. There is no better reason to end your workaholic behavior.
