How to Save Money on Parking

From 3arf

Especially if you live or work near a city, parking can be quite expensive.  You may pay quite a bit just for a few hours, and if you are paying it on a daily basis, then you might really feel like all of your work is going towards paying for parking.  Fortunately, there are things that you can do in order to save money on parking.  The following are some of these techniques.

Find a less expensive lot

May times, you can find much cheaper parking lots if you just know where to look.  For instance, you may pay $10 in the official parking garage of a museum, theater or other such entity.  Many times you will pay half of that or less if you go to a private lot that is just beyond the other parking lot.  Sometimes you would not even need to walk more.  You should explore the areas around where you pay a lot of parking (if they are safe) to see if you can find a lot that can save you money.  Also, if you are at a location such as an airport, you will often have the choice between short-term parking and long-term parking.  You might be able to save a lot of money by going to the long-term parking instead of the short-term parking.

Take a park and ride

In many cities they offer a park and ride.  You will park in a lot that is either free or relatively low cost.  Then you can take some sort of public transportation to your destination such as a bus, train or something else.  This can often save you a lot of money on parking.  It can also be nice to have some free time instead of having to drive.

Try to be more careful when estimating meter parking and put less in at a time

Sometimes people put way more than they would even need into parking meters and then in the end they lose the money.  One thing would be to try to be more accurate with this so that you do not overspend.  If you are going to be close, you can figure that you can always come back out to put more money into the meter.

In today’s difficult economy, many people want to save money, and a lot of people want to save it on parking.  Consider the above techniques to help you save money on parking.
