How to Road Trip with Kids

From 3arf

Don't you love going for a road trip with the kids in the back seat, while they scream at each other, and annoy you? Vowing to never get in any vehicle with the kids ever again, it suddenly hits you, there are numerous ways to amuse the kids that are fun-filled, creative activities and family games that can actually bring you closer together as a family. This way, you can keep your sanity and the kids can have a great time, without them yelling "He touched me, and Mom, he's looking at me."

It's worth the money to purchase hand-held video games for the kids to play with. Many games are sold today, that are non-violent, and that actually involve your child's sense of creativity. There are games that have dolls where the kids create a home and they act as the parents. Some games foster independence and responsibility by having the kids take care of the video animals. And you don't have to clean up after the animal or pay for veterinary visits. Each child can play games that involve their imagination and creativity and foster skill building, while they pass several hours of bliss making time for you to drive the vehiclepeacefully.

Singing songs is a great way to pass the time and involve every child of every age group. Sing old favorites such as 99 bottles of pop on the wall, or Row, row, row your boat. You could let the kids listen to their personal I-pods, but what fun would that be? Turn on the radio and have each family member take turns singing the songs. Create your own words to the songs, like you are singing karaoke. Make up your own songs to familiar tunes, and see how masterful each family member really is.

This is an activity every family member can join in on. Count certain colored vehicles on the road that drive past your vehicle. Count how many red cars, trucks, RV's etc., each child finds on the road. Count all the white cars. Count all the different kinds of cars on the road such as Volkswagen Beetles driving on the Interstate. Tell the kids they used to be called punchbugs and why, and this will set the family off to punchbug heaven. Have the kids count all the neon colored vehicles on the road. Have the kids see how many RVs they can find with a boat or a car towed behind them. This way you can reward the child that finds the most of a certain vehicle by allowing them to have their own bed to sleep in without a sibling that very evening.

Have the kids create their own stories by either writing them on paper, a computer, or by telling stories out loud. This way other family members can help each other with those stories. A younger child can get a thrill out of putting an alternate ending on an older sibling's funny story. This way everyone gets to utilize their minds, and not become really bored by being in the vehicle, for a very long time. And the kids will be occupied and won't be teasing each other and driving you crazy.

Am long road trip doesn't have to be a sanity check complete with a screaming stress headache. Road tripping with the kids can be a fun-filled, stimulating adventure worthy of repeating once again. With all the fun your kids will have, they will be begging to go on a road trip as soon as they get home!
