How a Positive Routine can Stop you getting Depressed when You’re Unemployed
It is important to establish a positive routine when you’re unemployed, as if there is no routine in place you can find yourself becoming depressed. You also have to ensure that it is a healthy routine you adopt, as you could quite easily slip into a routine of getting up late in the afternoon and wasting your time playing computer games. Clearly, you’re not going to get a job unless you actually put some effort into finding one and so you have to use your time wisely to maximise your chances of being given a job.
It can be very difficult to motivate yourself when you’re unemployed because, initially, you tell yourself that you’ll get a job soon. You may have been made redundant and given some redundancy money which you’re using to pay the bills, or you might have to rely on benefits, but when you believe it won’t take long to find work you’re generally in a positive mood. However, if you take the view that you don’t have to start your job search straightaway because you’ve got enough money for now, you may be shocked to discover that finding a job isn’t as easy as you thought it was going to be.
You don’t want to find yourself running up debts and struggling to pay bills and so it is worth being proactive in your job search from the very beginning, as you can’t expect a job to simply land in your lap. You have got to create a routine where you dedicate sufficient time to searching through job advertisements online and in newspapers, applying for jobs and sending out your C.V. and doing anything you can to enhance your employability, such as taking evening classes.
Although you can’t spend all day, every day focused on looking for a job, you at least have to get used to dedicating a certain amount of time to finding work, as this is the only way you will ever get back into employment again. Job hunting can be a long, tiring and disheartening process and so you have to have other things in your life to keep you occupied. Just because you’re unemployed doesn’t mean you can’t have a social life and go out with your friends and relatives.
Money may be tight when you’re unemployed, but you can still find positive ways to use your time, rather than just staying in bed all day or drinking and eating too much, which is why it is important to devise a routine that gets you to use your time effectively, but that still enables you to have some fun.
