Maintaining a Positive Attitude at Work
Not many people no matter how much they enjoy their job want to go to work everyday.
It is important to maintain a positive attitude at work, as work for many of us is essential to live and to pay the bills and to have some sort of an disposable income.
Work cannot always be pleasant, work can be long hours, it can be depressing, there can be no rewards other than wages and employment can also be in really poor conditions.
A positive attitude at work will help make the day a little bit easier and can also contribute to helping with your Employer recognising that you have a cheerful disposition which will sometimes help the attitude of colleagues and customers.
Most people spend more time at work then they do at home and to spend a lot of time somewhere which is needed, a positive attitude is needed for general well being and happiness.
When people feel down at work and feel like they really don’t want to be there, it will also impact on how they feel outside of the work place, people may look forward to going home but when they are home all they will be doing is dreading going into work in the morning or after their day off which will then not only have a negative impact on themselves but also on their family causing further disruption and misery in their life.
If customers see that an Employee is happy then it also improves their experience of using the company and will encourage them to return and some customers also give positive feedback to the Employer which can improve the Employees standing within the company and gain them recognition.
When people are seriously unhappy in their work then it is time to search for another job at another company or in a different sector. This is harder in reality than it is saying it.
However there is a clause for Employers which states in the UK that if an employee requests training which can further their prospect employments then the employer has to be seen to be meeting the employees requests.
An employer who sees an employee demonstrates a positive attitude in the work place will most likely be more inclined to go that little bit further for an employee seeking training.
This will aid the employee in having a goal of leaving the company through their current employment and being able to gain employment in a job which will make them happier in their life generally.
Employers can pull employees into the office and give them verbal warnings if they come across as miserable to customers and put it down as being uncooperative within the company.
It is unfair but this is how employers try to instil discipline in employees concerning their emotional state as well as their general work performance, employers can also say in a disciplinary procedure that by not maintaining a positive attitude at work that this is affecting the employees general working performance which is damaging to the company.
It is important to maintain a positive attitude in the workplace for all round general happiness and well being and there are services such as Unions which can help employees who are not feeling happy in their employment.
