How Long should a Couple Stay Engaged
Deciding to get married is a big step for any couple, becoming engaged is a sign of the commitment that a couple have made to each other that one day they will get married. How long a couple wait between getting engaged and actually getting married is a decision personal to them, there really is no set length of time for an engagement.
In some cases a couple see their engagement as a commitment to get married one day, not necessarily any time soon. In this case the engagement might be a long one, if a couple are in no rush to get married then there really is no reason why they shouldn't have a long engagement.
Perhaps a couple simply don’t have the money for a wedding but would like to do something to show their commitment to each other. This is another reason for a longer engagement; the couple can show their intention to marry while taking the time to save for their dream wedding day.
In other cases the couple may want to get married quickly, maybe they don’t actually want a big wedding. Getting married quickly often stops a lot of the fuss people tend to make leading up to a wedding. Many couples don’t even bother with an actual engagement, if they don’t want any fuss, and they are sure that they want to become man and wife then there is no real need for an actual engagement period.
Many couples want to take time to simply enjoy being engaged, the choice really is down to the individual couple. Being engaged is in itself a big commitment, and it is perfectly fine for a couple to simply enjoy that stage in their relationship before actually getting married.
Each couple will have their own idea of their perfect wedding, if they want to get married on a specific date for example; this may be the deciding factor on how long to remain engaged. If a couple want to get married on a specific birthday or other occasion then this may well be the deciding factor when it comes to deciding how long to be engaged for.
Similarly the couple may have a dream location in mind; many wedding venues are booked for months or even years in advance. This can also make a difference to how long the couple will wait before actually getting married. If the couple have a specific date and location in mind then this can make things even harder for them as if they can’t get their dream location on that date then they will have to wait a whole year longer to have their dream wedding.
There are many things that a couple must take into consideration when deciding what is the perfect length of time for their engagement, the decision is a personal one and it is different for each individual couple. There is no right length of time for an engagement, what matters is that the couple get the wedding that they want, when they want it and most importantly that they have a happy married life together.
