A Sincere thank you goes a Long way

From 3arf

Volunteers are a unique breed. These people are willing to give of their time, talents and money to make a difference in someone else’s life. One of the greatest things is that one act of volunteerism can truly start a ripple that can change not one, but many lives.

Most dedicated volunteers are not trained to be that way. It is their very nature to give and have no expectations of something in return. With that being said, most volunteers saythey are rewarded morethan those they are helping. Everyone has a story to tell and a lesson to learn. Volunteers are not seeking attention, so why should everyone participate in Volunteer Recognition Day?

It is simply the right thing to do. It doesn’t cost anything to look someone in the eye and give them a sincere thank you. At the very least everyone could do this to honor volunteers. It is one of those situations where everyone wins.

There are many places where you can find a large number of volunteers. For example, there are many volunteers in schools. It is an excellent place for parents, teachers and students help teach about the importance of volunteers. They call all work together to make cards and small gifts for those who volunteer at the school. It can be worked right into the curriculum.

Another place where many volunteers can be found is the hospital. This can be very stressful, as many times the circumstances for those they see are not pleasant. Still these volunteers keep coming provide a needed service. Why not surprise them with a bouquet of flowers? Maybe a nice fruit basket placed in the lunch area would nice gesture.

It does not have to be money. In fact, one really great way to celebrate is to learn their job and then surprise them with a day off! Let them choose the day to simply go do something unexpected. It is always good to “find” some extra time.

Exposure to volunteers is an excellent idea. People can learn to reach out to others and perhaps everyone will look for opportunities to serve. It may be the volunteerism is something that can be taught. It could be that celebrating this occasion will bring on an entire new generations of volunteers.

To look forvolunteer opportunitiesin your area you can call the Chamber of Commerce, local hospitals, schools, American Red Cross, and other non-profit organizations. It always good to lend a helping hand.
