Honda Accord Disable Horn
Disabling the horn on your car is something that you'll probably never need to do; however, it's nice to be able to know how to do it in case you ever need to. If you have a car alarm, loud thunder (or sometimes even steady rain) can set the alarm off, and if it's a long overnight storm, disabling the horn can prevent the alarm from sounding in the middle of the night. The first thing to do is to make sure the car is off. Then pop the hood, which you can do by pulling the hood release lever located just below and to the left of the steering wheel. You won't need any tools to disable your 2001 Honda Accord's horn (except for maybe a pair of pliers, if the relay is tough to pull out).Once the hood has been released, you can open it by standing in front of the car, lifting up on the hood, and feeling underneath it for the latch. The latch is located just under the front of the hood, about halfway from each side of the car. Release this latch by pulling it, and then you can raise the hood all the way and prop it up with the metal bar that is lying across the car's front frame, where the front of the hood was resting. An electrical relay controls the horn, and this relay can be found in the Accord's fuse box. The fuse box is a black plastic box located on the left side of the engine compartment (as you're looking at it from in front of the car) toward the back, by the windshield. Remove the top of the fuse box by pushing in on the two front tabs, then lifting it up and out.The fuse box contains a bunch of fuses and relays. The horn relay is black and rectangular, and it's located in a row of three similar relays on the left side. The horn relay is the closest to the center of the three. (If you want to be sure you're removing the correct relay, there is a diagram of all the fuses and relays on the top of the fuse box cover.) Removing this relay will disable the horn without interrupting any other components. To remove the relay, simply pull it straight up out of its socket. You'll probably be able to remove it by hand, but if it's difficult to pull out, you can use a pair of needle-nose pliers to make it easier. After removing the relay, put it somewhere safe so you'll know where it is. (A good spot to store the relay is in the small pull-out compartment to the left of the steering wheel.) Then close up the fuse box (by pushing the back side in first, then pushing down on the front side so the tabs snap into place), remove the bar holding the hood and lay it back across the frame (while supporting the hood with your other hand), and let the hood gently drop back into place.Your horn will now be disabled, but everything else will work just as it did before. Try the horn to be sure it doesn't make a sound - if it honks, then you know the wrong relay was removed.Related articles:-How to replace a headlight on a 2001 Honda Accord-How to replace a fuse in a 2001 Honda Accord-How to replace the high mount brake light in a 2001 Honda Accord sedan-How to force a 2001 Honda Accord to shift out of park-How to replace the dome light in a 2001 Honda Accord EX sedan
